Header coatings

Good evening. Finally getting to the point of working on our car to get back in shape for racing again. Looking for advice on header coatings. Have an older set of Hookers that have the typical rusty appearance. Hoping for something that will stay looking good over a long period of time. Just checked on Nitroplate and it appears they don't take small jobs from little guys like us anymore. Have used Jet-Hot many years ago and had bad results with theirs flaking badly after about a year. Any suggestions? Thanks...

William, give the guys at M&R 865-933-1478. They have a quality product, will stand behind their product and are racers. They are a small company and do not take credit cards (the last time I used them at least) and they will ask you to mail a check after they are finished with them.

A little out of your area , but Central Connecticut Coatings does an excellent job .
I have some headers out there that are 5-7years old and are in great condition .
My experience with their work has been excellent.

Lynn, I've had the Superstocker in storage since Mike passed. Had planned to have it out last year, but life keeps throwing curveballs our way. Hope to get it to a friend of ours that Mike was working with, when he was able to drive it, to go over it and help me get it back on track this year. I'm sure just from sitting in storage for this long, there's plenty that needs attention. If we can keep everyone in the family healthy and upright, I should be able to handle that.

The headers I need done are for a small block 68 Camaro to bracket race & cruise on the street once/twice month.

Do not hesitate to call Jimmy Bridges, or me, if you need help. Jimmy and I were just talking about Michael and the car last week, when we were looking at some heads, and what we were going to do this year.

Thanks Alan. Once I can put time into the superstocker I expect I'll be calling on ya'll. I have the heads Jimmy worked on for Mike sitting next to the car. Don't know much about them though. Unfortunately Mike never got the opportunity to put them to use.

It is.

Lynn sold us the engine Jimmy ran in the car, and sold the car with the newer engine to Michael. Jimmy and I helped Michael after he bought it from Lynn. We ran the engine in Scot LaMar's green 69 Camaro. The engine is about to go back on the dyno in a month or so, and it will be for sale.

As I understand it, this is one of Jimmy Bridges cars from a while back. My brother would likely be able to give a good history of that car if he was here. He drove from Wilmington NC to South Dakota to pick it up a few years ago. He had a pretty colorful tale of that trip, as it was rather cold and what us South-Easterners would consider a serious blizzard. Apparently just an average day in S Dakota for that time of year??? I came home from work the day he got home and he's in the middle of my front yard with it. Surprised the hell outta me when I saw that.

Re: Header coatings

That is in fact the Camaro that Jimmy Bridges campaigned for years, mostly in Super Stock E, as a 396 4 speed car. That was before he bought the Corvette he races now. Jimmy Bridges sold the car to Glenn Young, locally, and as I understand, built a new engine for it. They (Glenn and his son, I believe)raced it for a while, and then sold it to Lynn Engle. We bought the original engine Jimmy had in the car, from Lynn, around 2011, I freshened it and we put it in Scot LaMar's 69 Camaro. Later, Lynn sold Jimmy's car to Michael.

I have had a few sets coated by Nitroplate and have never had an issue. Good guys, price was right, and I'll send my next set there.

Maybe not, believe they only service commercial customers now. Happened couple of years ago right after they did an old set of Hookers for me....great job too. Assume Kevin is still there though.

No sir, Kevin Cradduck left the parent company, Servitech Industries, right after the decision to move to corporate only customers was made. I was sort of an outside sales consultant, I worked trade shows and other events, as well as being the guy responsible for most of the mechanical side of Kevin's racing operation. Of course, when he left, I left as well.

They only service corporate accounts now, no individuals or small shops. Sadly. That's why Chris and I suggested M&R. There also aren't any racers or hobby guys left at Servitech, the parent company of NitroPlate.

That says a lot right there. Send the check after they are finished! Sounds outstanding to me...

For those of you that had headers coated by NitroPlate, what is the proper breakin procedure? I had a set coated by NitroPlate some time ago and I am just getting ready to use them. Also,is there a product I should use to wipe them down with before starting the engine?

Thank you.

We didn't have a break in procedure because our coatings (Nitroplate) were completely cured before they were shipped to the customer. One thing you need to be sure of though, is that you are jetted (tuned) pretty close at intitial start up. You can use any kind of aluminum polish to clean them also.
