Greg Turk’s DragPak. Only FS Mopar to mount a serious challenge to the COPO’s and Mustangs. There was a Frequent Flyer feature on it in ND a few months ago. Very cool.

Factory Stock. Quickest run in the class so far.

Just what Stock eliminator needs, a 170 MPH player. When will this madness stop?

Wow - how long ago were we looking for the first stocker in the 9s -- now we will be waiting for the first in the 7s.

Unreal ..

Very glad to see a MoPar competitive, as it is good for all 3 mfgs to be representative
Congrats to the Blackbird

As soon as one of these guys runs up the rear of a 13 or 14 second car going through the traps. Sadly.

Certainly like to extend congratulations to Mr. Turk on an excellent pass.

Having said that, it's absolutely and unequivocally absurd. Stock Eliminator drivers are living vicariously through these ludicrous factory combinations.

Why not 180?

It will never stop!!! Why should it? The whole goal is to go faster.

Way to go Mr. Turk.

The original concept of drag racing was to run as fast as possible within the existing rules which is exactly what the Factory Showdown cars are doing. Chris Holbrook has run 8.10@168 in his Cobra Jet Mustang, David Barton 8.07@169 in his COPO Camaro, and now Geoff Turk 8.02@170 in his Drag Pack Challenger. These numbers show that the 3 brands are all competitive which is appealing to the fans. The fact that they run these incredible numbers on 9 inch tires just increases the appeal. To me, it doesn't seem to be absurd in any way, shape, or form. We may just have to agree to disagree.

Huge congratulations to Geoff Turk on being the quickest and fastest Stocker in the history of the NHRA - 8.02@170! So close to that magical 7 second run.

He is not there to bracket race with stockers IMHO. Just there to lay down a run and try for the 7's. Next year most of the SC cars will be on their own. So what is the problem? Nice run for Turk and crew.

Re: Indy Fall Classic

First congrats to the stock and super stock winners, Mr. Fuller and Mr. McBean and to the #1 qualifier in stock, Gary Summers (nice 1.675 under : -) )

Second, thanks for all the acknowledgment and support. We didn’t quite make it to the 7s but we will keep trying to improve.

There are many, many who have contributed and are the real ‘skunkworks’ who truly deserve the credit for making the Blackbird fly. They include first and foremost, my wife and best ever independent racing consultant, Sandy; Mike Roth at MR2 Performance/ JR1 Oil; Tony Bischoff and the team at BES Racing Engines; Jason Coan and Coan Racing; Dale Aldo at Mopar, the SRT Engineering team (Mike Rossey, Eric Cunningham and Ben Reedy) and Robin Lawrence and the team at Holley EFI and many more.

I agree with what many believe, that these SC cars running in the Showdown should be seperate from Stock. We are very happy that’s the way NHRA has gone. We look forward to running those events, going faster and going rounds in 2018. Of course we will run a few Divisionals / Opens where we will likely qualify in stock but, as always, with no real intent to run in an eliminator I feel this car should not compete in. With the NHRA and NMCA schedules, I think we will have plenty of opportunity to compete and give it our best. Thanks again.

LOL...you can tell I took a lot of flights in my time with Boeing. It really was a great article and congrats to Geoff and the whole team. Look forward to seeing the Blackbird out there flying again next year.

is there a qualifying list for SS?

Mike Delahanty 10-15-2017 08:09 PM

Re: Indy Fall Classic

I'm going to go a bit off topic to make a case here for supporting Regional Stock - S/S Association races. This D3 National Open race had a $100 entry for a $1,000 Winner and $500 RU purse. At the last GLSSA race that same $100 entry paid $2,100 to win and $800 RU - and we were done before it got dark.

With IHRA out of the picture the case for Regional Associations has become stronger. As you begin to make your 2018 racing plans, make the effort to support your regional Associations and keep Stock and SS racing alive and strong.

X2 agreed, concerned about safety issue on 9" slicks and huge disparity in top end speeds in stock eliminator.

Since they had advised it was a 'run it all in one day' type event did racers really think they'd get two time trials and it not be late finishing? and congrats to Mike for making a long day worthwhile.
