Bogart wheel cracked again!

2 Attachment(s)
I went out to unload my Drag Pak today and the left front tire was flat. After airing it up I rolled it out before it went flat again, pulled the wheel and tire and discovered two 8-10 inch long cracks on the inside of the wheel. I always check them while I'm checking tire pressure but this was inside the wheel and couldn't be seen on the car. This is the second time my Bogart wheels have cracked, last time I lost the tire coming of the track. No more Bogart wheels for me but it is a good reminder to keep a close eye on your equipment. This would have caused a serious accident if it came apart going down the track.

is the aluminum cracking or the welds?

Thanks for the heads-up. I know that their not the only company that's had problems with cracked wheels. I think it all goes back to us racers continually wanting lighter & faster.

Would forged one piece front wheels be a better choice?

One brand of racing wheels that is overlooked and of great quality is Lindsay Racing Products in Peoria, Arizona.

No, last time I sent them back and they put thicker inner and outer hoops on, apparently still not strong enough. No sense in spending more money with Bogart. They make a nice light wheel but I don't want to keep taking chances.

How fast do you drive around corners??

I have seen cars exiting the shut down area at speeds that scare me.

Side loading causes the wheel to flex and flex causes work hardening which leads to cracks..

I know how heavy my car is and I baby it around corners..

Just sayin'

I take it easy, always have. These Challengers are nose heavy.

This problem has been discussed before several times. Holeshot Wheels make a wide variety of one piece and 3 piece wheels. Good balance of weight & strength. My car is 3,560+.

One piece selection: https://holeshotwheels.com/collections/1-pc-wheels

I've run Holeshots for many years without such issues, but everything should be checked/replaced periodically. Just recently I've had my second OEM 2007 Pace Trailer aluminum wheel develop a leak through the aluminum. Nothing was visible, but apparently the porous aluminum developed a crack after years of use. The trailer has stayed below it's 12,000 lb rating at around 10,500.

Re: Bogart wheel cracked again!

FWIW
How the car is tied down in the trailer may be the problem or part of it.
If tie downs are parallel the car will not move forward or back but will rock side to side while on the road.
Cross or X tie downs front & rear side loading is greatly reduced.
Also tie down the car so it will not move up & down this will wear out your shocks in a few trips. May require adding more tie downs.

Bogart makes a back plate version for the spoke wheels.
It comes black and might do the trick.
