Who Could Have Guessed This Could Ever Happen

"Chinese automaker made bid for Fiat Chrysler: report"

http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/2...er-report.html

What would you have said, standing in the staging lanes back in the sixties, had someone suggested that one day, the commies would own one of our beloved big 3?

I don't see this being much different than the Mercedes & Fiat purchases. As long as the company stays in business, that's the most important factor,...lots of jobs.
Thanks, Ron

All three are going down the tube if they don't start making a product that stays out of the shop. Of course that might be their agenda, I know on FCA after the 2013 model one can't get any electrical part from a junk yard because the vin numbers are encrypted into the original part. Junk yard part won't erase it's original number. They got ya. I think my 15 Challenger has 10 different moduals, all coded to the vin. What a nightmare if bought by China.

Chinese crap used to be made of "pop metal" and way inferior. Not so much now. Much improved quality control and materials. Look around your house for something built in the USA. A good thing about all of this is that China is less likely to get involved with North Korea problems.

It's different in many different ways. Neither the Germans nor the Italians are threatening their neighbors with war, are annexing large swaths of international waters and planting artificial islands there with airbases on them, are buying up large parts of American business and property, are engaging in cyber shenanigans, are reverse engineering, copying or outright stealing everything from car parts to fighter jets and building it them themselves, and/or building up their military for eventual war with the US.

At least not in this century. The Chinese are not our pals.

Of course they're not our friends! But FCA (and GM and Ford) have been selling vehicles in China for a while now, and we have China to thank for saving Buick! It's all about money anyway, and the Jeep brand is hot right now!

Does that mean they can't sell the parts/break them up? Or will it all just be crushed? Help me understand, I'm out of the loop.

Not sure how it'll pan out but some will or already have figured how to flash them. One dealership in Mich had 71 new Charger-Challengers broke into in one nite, went through the back class, thieves stole the dash tv screens, only thing they where after. Wrecked hard parts will sell but no electronics as of yet.

Before WW2 Buick inported their cars including to China.
It was a very popular car especially in the up and coming mega cites Singapore and Hong Cong. It was a tough car and fit the rugged country side well too.
