Racing starts tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock with Super Street out first followed by Stock. The weather forecast shows a risk of rain starting tomorrow morning throughout the early afternoon.

It may be difficult to report from the track since the signal there is extremely weak.

Hi all,

I love this track it's smooth as glass, uphill shutdown, downhill return road and downhill staging lanes.............

The only other thing that I would want was it be closer to my home.....

Happy racing to all,

Hi,

I have a question.................

I just went to the Lucas Live Timing site to check on Super Stock qualifying and they only had 20 cars listed......

Is it a very bad turn out or a problem live timing?????????????????

Thanx,
Bob

Unique burn out box at Earlville.Screen first to clean your tires. Then a wet metal surface to get them moist. Then the burn out surface itself. Works well.

my last trip out there i went to Dyersville and filled the lounge up with model kits from the AMT store. went to fields of dream, had to show my drivers license cause nobody would believe i had the same name as "shoe less" lol
Tri State is a great place to go to, if you have not been there, its got to be on your "bucket list".

Re: Live from Earlville D5 LODRS

Sorry race fans for the lack of reporting so far today but there is no signal whatsoever at the track to post anything. I've returned to my Hotel to post this info.

Let's get you caught up on what's going on so far today. The morning started off with a heavy blanket of fog that covered most of the cornfields in eastern Iowa.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psgu1ffs8t.jpg

By about 9 o'clock enough of the fog had lifted and the track was dry With enough visibility to start running Super Street.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ps1dyjun1d.jpg

All the classes got their first qualifying in under cloudy skies with a lots of humidity in the air. Some of the guys that raced here last week noted it was slower today.

As Stock started the second qualifying run the weather begin to change from a slight tail to a heavy cross wind with temperatures getting chilly as a heavy black blanket of clouds quickly blew in from the north.

With Stock Q2 done SC started its second qualifying run and about halfway through that round heavy rain from those dark clouds hit the track. A major weather front is making its way through the area with temperatures dropping and Hi

Strong wind gusts at the moment. After drying the track SC was again loaded in the lanes and just a few pair of cars made it down the track before it started to sprinkle again.

With the High Winds and intermittent rain sprinkles it's not clear when qualifying will be finished today.

Tri-State has some of the most unique track service equipment that I've run across. I'm guessing this piece of equipment is used to scrub the track.

Racing is on hold as a good size cell is passing through. The track has a jet dryer - will have to see if the rain ends in time to use it today.

Re: Live from Earlville D5 LODRS

Here's the final report for Friday. The racing was called by about 3:00 this afternoon after several waves of showers came through the area. Comp top sportsman top dragster and alcohol cars did not get to make their planned runs at all today. The current plan for tomorrow is that all classes will get 2 time runs before eliminations start in the afternoon. It's not clear what classes will get first round tomorrow and due to the small car count in SS it's likely that first round for them won't be until Sunday.

There was the barbecue tonight for the racers that was well attended and the food was great.

Here are the qualifying runs for the second round of stock and SS. And if you look closely you can see the raindrops on the glass coverings where the sheets were posted.

It's a much different weather day here as the rains have moved through the area and a cool front has arrived. My gut feel says it should be quicker today with the cooler temps and some sun in the sky. I expect to be back with some updates later today stay tuned.

Mike,

Appreciate all of the pictures and your reports. I haven't seen any shots that show the spectator bleachers. I am not a racer, but take photos from the stands. They do have some, right?

See all in Charlotte next Friday, bright and early.

Re: Live from Earlville D5 LODRS

A quick midday update before stock runs its first round. The big news here is the weather and more specifically the tail wind which has reached speeds of up to 20 miles an hour. Add to that temps this morning in the low 60s and it makes for a lot of quick runs. About 14 more stockers and several more SS cars came in this morning.

Here are the stock qualifying sheets for the third round

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ps4vhgw7w4.jpg

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psqlsuecno.jpg

And here is the schedule for today and you can see stock will be the last thing to run and the only first round to run today

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psf7bskldo.jpg

I'll be back with a full recap on the day along with plenty of pictures later this evening..

They moved round 1 to tomorrow after super street. They had a,ready called the right side if the ladder sheet to the lanes before they called it off.

Re: Live from Earlville D5 LODRS

As Bob noted above R1 for stock got postponed until Sunday morning. I think they made the right call - as it turns out the paired cars would have been sitting waiting to run for almost 45 minutes.

It's interesting to note that the racing so far has been incident free - no crashes - no major oil downs - things have run very smoothly.

Now for some pictures of race cars. First up is the cool 71 Chevelle of Jeff and Justin Nibaur. Jeff spent almost 7 years taking his car from its tired used up musclecar state this really clean stocker. It's a steel head version of the square port 454.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ps4huhzll7.jpg

You guys out west should recognize this car as one of John Irving's Mopars that is now owned by Steve Scherzchlist from South Dakota.

There are many elements of the design and construction at Earlville that are well thought out and the burnout box is one of them. As Lyn noted above the metal grating over the pit before driving into the water captures lots of the pebbles and gravel that the slicks pick up in the pits. After each class is complete one of the workers power washes that metal plate and hoses all the debris into that pit under the grate. I counted four or five workers in each lane between the Burn out box and starting line.
