Southeast Gassers
Blast from the past--today. If you like high RPM, 4-speed, old school gassers
with old school paint jobs, wheels, etc., you'll really enjoy these videos. No 2-step rev limiters and hardly an automatic to spoil the fun. :) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1) Southeast Gassers Finals, Greer Dragway, April 26th 2014 https://youtu.be/GwFZmRKUMeg 2) Southeast Gassers Finals, Shadyside Dragway, May 31st 2014 https://youtu.be/DTzdGbWgssY 3) Southeast Gassers Finals, Greer Dragway, November 8th 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CutbPm2SjS8 4) Southeast Gassers, Knoxville Dragway, May 30th 2015 https://youtu.be/EOsja1xKtHc 5) Southeast Gassers, Shadyside Dragway, June 20th 2015 https://youtu.be/-omih8m9kG8 6) Southeast Gassers, Union Dragway, September 5th 2015 (High Definition video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q319xqHGZH8 7) Southeast Gassers Finals, Greer Dragway, November 14th 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HkMUmQLcQU 8) Southeast Gassers Season Opener, Greer Dragway, April 30th 2016, https://youtu.be/OBzM-SaLQhI More old school videos here: https://www.youtube.com/user/BIGDADDYDALEWILSON/videos |

Also, I don't know if you noticed, but the announcer at those races is none other than Bret Kepner. At first I didn't recognize him because last time I seen him on TV he was a lot slimmer. :) Pete |

Re: Southeast Gassers
These guys put on an awesome old school show! Quain Stott got this program started and it has really grown. Several of the racers including Quain are local to me and I knew them since high school. Quain and his brother Mitch both were Pro Mod world champions and now drive Gassers. I have got to see them several times at a local track and the bleachers are always packed and every race gets bigger. These cars are built to replicate the gassers of the late 1960's, cable tach's, magnesium wheels, straight axles, and long traction bars, high RPM small blocks and a clutch. If you ever get the chance to see them don't miss it, a walk through the pits is like a history lesson about drag racing. Don Jackson

Are you somehow connected? The only problem with the "gasser" is that it apparently had a very small short lived window in the spirit of what the "SEG" wants to present. A few years? The gas class apparently morphed into comp eliminator in the seventies and eighties...........in which case they appeared and behaved similar to modified eliminator ( which has always been my inspiration ). http://images55.fotki.com/v659/photo...r2CC479-vi.jpg |

Re: Southeast Gassers
You and I may like these..............but I can tell you Stott doesn't appreciate them ..........as much.
From what I can determine from talking to him , if it doesn't have a straight axle the fans wont appreciate them as much..................you and I know better though..........;) |
Re: Southeast Gassers
I would think some type of nostalgia modified or early pro stock would have more of a following than the gassers. But thats just my preference.

Re: Southeast Gassers
I'm from upstate NY and remember the 60s. Spent a lot of time at a place called Northeast Speed in Schenectady, NY, while I was earning a degree in Physics at Union College. Jack Muldowney built the cars there.
Including one for Shirley... a vette. I got a '64 vette fuelie setup and took it apart to put an AFB on a plate on top. Jack told me there was a guy named Ralph Ridgeway in CT that had beat me to it! Just saw a Ridgerunner for sale on eBay - Ralph's own casting tunnel ram. I've watched all the Southeast Gasser videos I could find - love them! |
Re: Southeast Gassers
Thanks for sharing the story.
http://116.imagebam.com/download/WX_...corvette-2.jpg Glad you enjoy watching the SE Gassers vids. Me too. It's really a joy to hear race cars with 4-speeds and no 2-step rpm limiters on the starting line. Pete |
Re: Southeast Gassers
Hey Pete, where'ja get that picture?
I never saw the car race.. but they went to North Hudson and Napierville, south of Montreal. |

And a follow up..
Northeast Speed was owned, silent partner, by Bill Rubin. The Rubin Glass Company was $$$$$$$$$$$ in Albany, NY. They had one of a handful of lightweight Mopar hemis made when they first came out, for special drag racing... 1965??? Jack had the engine apart and the guys bet me that I couldn't pick the head up overhead. I grabbed the head with a 100 pound snatch and nearly put it through the ceiling! Weighed nothing! Everybody got a good laugh on me, the 'college' kid. I used to ride a bike over there 'cause I didn't have a driver's license until I was 21. I DID run trains, 10,000 tons and 3 engines, starting when I was 14, though. My best friend, Billy, on the left in my avitar, was from a railroad family... we rode trains everywhere. |
Re: Southeast Gassers
How could I forget???
TRUMP 2016 !!!! |
Re: Southeast Gassers
In their latest race it seems that the southeast gassers are going for the tubbed look... several new cars with the slicks hidden. In the day, guys like the the 'engineers' would get the 9" slicks out of the wind as much as possible - most cars still needed a radius to do it, though. We had a 64 Chevy II (Nova) for a family car and believe me, a 9" slick ain't gonna fit back there.
Skip Hess and Ralph Ridgeway got the wheels up with A frames... like your Mopar guy. Skip with a spacer under the the front crossmember on his 62 vette and Ralph with ball joint spacers and 90/10 shocks on his 55. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. |

Re: Southeast Gassers
Trump won.. now, if he can stay alive...
The season final for the SEG had a tubbed, snorkel intake car running. Sad.... |
