302 Ford oil pan

Who makes the best sealing Front sump oil pan for a 302 ford? (67 Mustang) I have a POS made in some other country pan that always leaks no matter what I do. I'm willing to spend good money to fix the problem once and for all.

I have the Milodon in the link below on my 68 coupe with a ford Racing 302 block and it is nice and tight. The real trick is to use the best gasket you can find. See the second link.

On my car this is a very tight fit and I have to remove half of the steering linkage to drop the pan.

The pan I have is 7 QTs on it now. I see that is a 5 QT pan. I Wonder if 5 QTs would be enough oil. I have a high volume pump and turn 6500 RPM in the traps.

What we use, not a front sump but he can build pretty much anything.

With the RPM you want to run and an upgraded oil pump, the 7 quart pan is the smart choice. Ford Racing uses Champ Pans on its 302 based Circle Track engines - and these have beeen tested and proven to be the best available. For the oil pan gasket, the favorite among many engine builders is the Ford Racing 1 piece M-6710-A50.

I would definitely not use a high volume pump with a 5 QT pan. The front sump configuration would only exacerbate the situation.

I use a Moroso 7qt front sump with the kick outs, on both of my SS engines with
no oil problems @ 10k RPM.

Canton seems to do the best job for everything we have seen. We switched to their stuff years ago. No problems even after yanking the pan at the track.

The Summit link says it won't fit 4 bolt front and rear mains. I have the M6090 BOSS302 block - 4 bolt mains with two bolt front and rear. Will this fit mine? It's in a 68 Coupe.

I agree. Used canton pan for years and no problem on my Windsor motor. Mine has the kick outs and baffles in it.

One thing I noticed on these pans is the rear drain bolt. I have a after market rack n pinion steering in the car that is very tight to the pan in the rear. I wonder if it will clear.

The Ford Racing BOSS block was designed to use a stock pan. That's why the front and rear main caps are 2-bolt vs. 4-bolt.

And that's why my stock pan fits... [Bangs head on table]...

Thanks. I need to get rid of that thing and the one in the link is priced good compared to the one from Ford Racing.

Ford Racing used to use and sell Canton pans but for some reason now has Watson Engineering making them. The Watson pans are more engineered but you do have to pay the price for that. I have seen several different brands of pans on their oval track crate engines.
