Live from Indy Fall Cassic

We arrived about 12;30 this afternoon after a uneventful cruise from the Detroit area. I bought some Murphy's gas on the way down and MPG on my truck drop 12% from the Sunoco that I had bought at my local station. I will never buy that junk again.

I got into the test and tune and got to make two passes. Barometer was very low. The dry bulb for the first run was 68 degree's and the wind was mostly a cross tail at 8 to 18 MPH. The wind seemed to be always changing direction. There was a constant stream of cars going down the track with no down time that I noticed. It was quite tough to interpret the information because of conditions, but we will spend some time tonight studying the data to see if we made any progress.

Tomorrow promises to be cooler temps and better barometer. The local weather is calling for the area's first frost Sunday morning. Dialing Sunday morning will prove to be interesting.

I hoping to have some pic's to post tomorrow.

Well congrats to Clay Arnett for (what I believe is) the fastest stock eliminator pass of all time! 8.46 @ 160

If the numbers are correct; that is the fastest Stock Eliminator run ever. When Don Fezell ran 8.50@158 last week at the Dutch Classic, he was the fastest Stocker ever and I thought that his numbers would last for a while. Guess I was wrong!
If I am not mistaken any car that runs faster than 8.50 needs a roll cage; does Clay have one in his car?

All the COPO's were built with a cage, but cars that run 8.49 or quicker need a 25.5 SFI certified rollcage. WOW!!

Re: Live from Indy Fall Cassic

The rains moved in and we are done for the day. Everyone got one run and I know for sure that a COPO Camaro went fast enough to set the A/S record. Ray Paquet was called to the tear down barn for certification.Did not know about Clay Arnett's situation. Gregg and Andrew Hill are staying at the track so maybe they can keep us up to date on the record status

The announced schedule for tomorrow is Stock first round at 9:00 AM followed by SS and one qualifier for the Super Quick cars. It looks to be a long day tomorrow because they had planned to run first round of the two bracket categories today so that has to be inserted the schedule.

I never got a chance to take any pictures today sorry. Maybe tomorrow will afford me some time for that.

Re: Live from Indy Fall Cassic

the rollcage is a minor part of the updates. all the things under bottom is the hard part, depending on which sfi spec they use. should be 25.5 but who knows what the tech people will do.there is more than one that they can fall into or will they just make another one to fit the cars. no matter if the runs were made in a test session instead of an event sfi update is pretty meaningless. proud for the arnetts, they are good people

We took off once it became apparent it was going to stay rainy all day. Made it home in time for the Notre Dame game, go Irish!

It is a 2014 COPO, and the class is AAA/SA (9.70 index). According to the NHRA classification guide; the engine combo is a supercharged 350 which is factory rated at 530 HP, and NHRA rated at 548 HP which gives it a power/weight ratio of 5.93.

Re: Live from Indy Fall Cassic

I have it on good authority that the Arnett's car was at legal FS/A weight which is more than 100lbs. heavy for AAA. Great run. 1.20 60' time.

Jim Schaechter sent me the first qualifying. Jim said it has been cold and there was a good head wind when qualifying.

Your Superstock winner is Bob Lowry and runner up Ray Paquet. Congrats to the both of them. I was fortunate to make it to the semi's, where a large redlight got me. I think Dave Walther was in the stock final but not positive

Congrats to Marty Buth on his # 1 Qualifying spot in Stock.

11.78 makes that the quickest qualifying run ever in Stock while only using 4 spark plugs. :)

He ran 8.532 on an 8.70 dial, opponent (Rick Winchester) ran 11.003 on an 11.06 dial. Must have been some good air Sunday morning.

Did he set the record in AAA/SA?

Re: Live from Indy Fall Cassic

Thanks to everyone for the congrats messages! My Dad (Thomas) and I certainly appreciate them!!

Thanks to Mr Gary Jennings for chiming in on the cage that everyone was wondering about. He is dead on in stating a 25.5 cert will be in order. Currently the rules don't call for it in Stock. Sounds like the 15 rule book will have it in there.

We did not set the record in AAA. We didn't put an R on the window or get in the lane with the record attempts.

Also for who asked it is a 350 2.9L supercharged combination.

Here you go guys and gals - A few Stock pics from the Fall Classic. As time permits I'll get some of the Super Stock cars up as well. I took a few thousand pics of the whole event (all of the classes) and sorting through is time consuming not to mention resizing to upload here. Trying to scheme up a plan for next year to get to at least all of the division 3 events and a few national events. As coverage of these events is dismal at best, I would like to step up to somehow actually cover some events. Any ideas let me know. I know on average just for me to go just to spectate, fueling up the van, eat, take photos and sleep somewhere it's in the $200-$300 dollar range
