"Live" from Indy 2014 60th US Nationals

We are still in Bowling Green, but I am sure someone is there and can give us an update on "what's happening"!

Ok, Boss, are you there yet? I saw where Jack had to withdraw, so looks like it is up to us this week!

All sitting on the staging lanes. Not sure when tomorrow the pitting starts. Lots of air conditioners going. And I'm sure lots of cold beer being drank for reasons of being hydrated! I'm guessing maybe 80-90 rigs here.

Hi Patsy,

I'm not there yet, I hope to be at Indy tomorrow night. I wanted to be there today, but it just did not work out for me to leave this morning.

Yo, Ken!

We are testing here in Bowling Green tomorrow and then trying to get our generator on our motorhome fixed on the way to Indy. Hope to be there tomorrow night if all goes well.
Patsy

SoAfter a meal of deer stew with the winners, Dog and Puppy, we age done for the evening. Plan on leaving about noon for Indy. Will probably watch some testing while getting ready to leave. Blew up two Pro Trans TH350 this weekend, one of my long time employees brought us a pickup load of Pro Flites, and then knocked a piston our of a SS V10, so it is parked. Ms. Wilkes, my Inventory Manager told me we should get at least 10 cases of beer in KY as Indy will only let you buy 3 cases. So that is done. Looking forward to Indy. More as the day progresses.

We're leaving for Indy to spectate and enjoy the festivities, does anyone know of a good hotel motel 25miles away from the track? Patsy keep up the great work, I think Ken should double your salary.lol Good luck to everyone.

We typically stay in Plainfield, which is about a 20 minute drive to the track. There are several places right along Interstate 70....Holiday Inn Express, Hampton, Baymont, Wingate, Super 8, Extended Stay America, LaQuinta, etc. Can't wait for the races! We are coming in late Wednesday night and will be watching the action on Thurs, Fri and Sat.

Sitting in line at Indy at #194. We are in the normal staging area, in the grass. It is very steamy with a slight breeze if you get away from the lines. Just saw local forecast, the weather looks better than we originally thought. This is the first week end in the 90 degrees since last year this time and there will be showers but not a wash out. Happy 60th Indy to all.

I always stay, and I am staying this year, at the Red Roof Inn North on Valparaiso Court. It is 15 miles from the track, and it is right off I-465; it takes about 18 minutes to get to the track. The place is clean and you can't beat the prices.

Good morning all, and I'm still not at Indy. We are about 50 miles east and should be there soon. I was hoping to be here yesterday and parked, but it was just not in the cards.

This week I'm driving the Cook Brother's 2014 Cobra Jet. Its the same car Sal Biondo has been driving this year. They changed it from a 2010 428 combo to a 2014 429 combo to run FS/B. It has been a thrash to get this car ready for Indy, and we hope we have all our ducks in a row and the car runs well.

I'm sure it will be a while before we are parked and get settle in. I hope to have some photos by the end of the day, stay tuned...

Below are two photos of the new look. The 2014 CJ has a different hood, front and rear bumpers, along with new head lights and tail lights.

We are here FINALLY!! We got here about 10:30 last night. A big storm was coming up, so they parked us on the round track. But if it rained last night, I never heard it!

We have a service man from Cummins Crosspointe, the Onan dealer here already working on our generator. Looks like it probably needs parts. More on it later.

It looks like they parked lots of rigs yesterday, maybe even after dark trying to miss the storm. We are # 431. I will try to get some pics after we get in and set up, but that may be a while.

More later.

The pit crew did a great job yesterday. They worked very late and accommodated everyone as much as possible. It is Indy you have to love the traditional pit spots. Thanks to the crew! Paula

Ken,
I'm not a Ford guy by any means, but I think this may be my favorite of all the cobra jets. It already looked good and I think the 14 looks even better!

Thanks Jimmy, the Cook's along with there whole crew worked day and night to get the new car ready for Indy.

Its hot and humid here, but as you can see by the first two photos, Redman and his crew did a great job getting everyone parked. Its a little tight for some, but that's Indy. We got here about 11:30 and the stacking area was cleared, amazing how they could move over 400 rigs in a few hours, hats off.

I was able to get a few photos between tech and trying to get settle. I will try to get more later, but some thunderstorms are coming through and its a mad dash to put everything away.

The engine photo is the new 429 Cobra Jet in the Cook car, I thought some of you might be interested it what it looks like. Also here is Dan Fletcher's new COPO all done up in Peak colors.

4800 feet on the DA this afternoon, then wind, then lots of rain, now rain and sun....Where is the rainbow?

Is the revised schedule anywhere online to print? I heard SS is not out first....big surprise.

Well the wind picked up and it just dumped rain here. We have been here since saturday afternoon. It has been hot for the guys from the west coast. More copos, CJs and challengers you could shake a stick at. This place is cool. Never seen this many stockers that are going to be bad *ss fast.

NASCAR D3 headed 429 CI Windsor small block with 15:1 CR and 650 lift cam. That thing has gotta make incredible power. Long stroke too so it must make ungodly torque. It will be very interesting to see how quick they let it go  Damn impressive. Go FoMoCo!http://classracer.com/classforum/att...0&d=1409084919

Is that 429 engine for Stock Eliminator or Comp Eliminator? I'd rate it 700hp just on looks before even hearing it.

Ok guys! THIS IS IT! The 60th US Nationals will start in 1 hour and 13 minutes!

We are down on Layer Lane if anyone wants to come by and say "Hi"! And don't look for the pink car! We have the Cowboy Cadillac here. So now it is 190 race cars competing for 128 spots!

It is great to see the new cars here, but the Manufacturers should have put up the money and let them run their own eliminator and not mixed in with regular Stock. They can let it all hang out with no consequences and we can't! Maybe next year??

It is a little cloudy this morning with possibility of rain everyday this week. Sportsmen get 2 runs today and 1 tomorrow with Stock class tomorrow and Super Stock class on Friday!

Wish us luck! We have a goal!!

Mickey, I'm listening to the audio cast from National Dragster.net.
If there is a live feed as in video, could some one please post the link.
Of course I'll not get any work done, but the 60th U.S. Nationals only comes once.
Thanks ahead of time, and safe racing one and all.

A few random notes from this morning's first Stock Qualifying session

Weather is warm and humid but not too bad for 8:30 a.m.

Early leaders
Joe Schaechter (-1.33)
David Barton (-1.32)

(Brent Calvert is shown as No. 1 but pretty sure they have him in the wrong class for now).

Still trying to get a head count on Factory Stock cars but it looks to be plenty.

Also have most of the COPO cars parked in a common area. Nice viewing for the fans.

More later...

Well first hit Storms .85 under Gullet .95 under they are still running stock right now. This is the first race I have been to where they called stock and there was already about 50 cars in the lanes. S/C just got called then it will be Super Stock and will be heading up with Troy wheel standing wagon.

James, suspecting there were a lot of chillers and ice going before getting into the lanes. Once all the FSS cars get their chassis setups dialed in the bump is going to be pretty wild, just as predicted.
