Drag Race Central closing???

I just read a blurb on BangShift.com that the major sponsor for Dragracecentral.com is not renewing this year and that the site may close down.
Go to Bangshift.com, article is on the 2nd page.

It is presented by Summit, and Summit does a ton of advertising there. It would be a shame to lose it.

I hope this doesn't happen. Drag Race Central is my lifeline when I am at work.

If that site went away, would there be an alternative for sportsman racing coverage?

It seems hard to believe summit alone
would not keep it going...I would miss it.
wonder if another big mail order company
would pick it up?

IF IT IS TRUE WE ALL NEED TO SEE WHAT WE CAN DO TO FIX IT? MAYBE TELL SUMMIT THAT WE WON'T BE SPENDING AS MUCH WITHOUT DRC? APPROACH JEGS?

Charge a small membership fee. As many of us that use the site, it would not take much to keep it rolling.

Thats the problem with 1320go.com, it's $149 a year to have total access. At $20 a year I think they'd have a winner

I've bought 90% of my misc. parts from Summit. And that includes stuff for my street cars. Believe their pricing and service is second to none but if they withdraw sponsorship from DRC then I'll definitely take my business elsewhere. Not sour grapes, just facts.

So because a company is "second to none", sponsors tons of stuff, and gave you years and years and years of live race reporting from multiple series all over North America for free, you wouldn't buy from them anymore??? Funny way of saying thanks, IMO.

I'll be placing another Summit order soon, most of which will be taken care of by Summit gift certificates won at sponsored events.

if Summit are having to cut back, I am just glad its DRC and not sportsman drag racing totally, you guys really need to get a grip!

thank you Summit for all you do for Sportsman Drag Racing:):):):)

Re: Drag Race Central closing???

I already gave them thousands as a way of expressing my gratitude, if they make a marketing decision that I'm unhappy with I fully intend to tell them that. I consider DRC one element of the total service package that they provide and if they choose to decrease their service then I simply will seek to support others based on their total service package, including sponsorship of programs that I identify with. I wonder what the Greg Anderson sponsorship package costs compared to their programs supporting bracket racing and others plus DRC? I'd hazard a guess there is no comparison. So yes, as a consumer I can voice my opinion with my wallet, just like I do on any goods or services.

Re: Drag Race Central closing???

I find it very hard to believe that the site will be closing.I could definitely see cutbacks like no more live reporters, but the information is valuable and somebody else will come along and do the same thing if they bail out.

With the quality of video on the internet today, there also is a huge market for each track to have a webcam and cover the events also, very similar to what the Las Vegas track does.

Advertising should easily be able to cover the expenses, but if it doesn't,I am sure most people would be comfortable with paying a "reasonable" fee to get the information or watch the events on the internet.

I just bought the CHROMECAST device that makes it pretty cool to watch the internet on your television.

Re: Drag Race Central closing???

Jim Carter and Michael Beard have made excellent points . If a company, as supportive of sportsman racing as Summit has been, rises to their level or greater, most racers will be all for it. The competition benefits the racer.
To expect any particular company to always provide every service it has provided in the past may be asking too much. Hopefully Summit will be able to continue this service. I have always been pleased with their response to my contacts and purchases.

Re: Drag Race Central closing???

DragRaceCentral reporters will continue to be at all NHRA National events and right now will be doing qualifying and elimination reports at the end of each day of Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events.

We are currently seeking additional sponsorship to have reporters at each Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.

Summit Racing Equipment has been our primary sponsor for the past 15 years and will continue in that capacity for at least one more season. They have also been strong supporters of Sportsman racing for as long as I can remember (and in my case, that's a really, really long time) and I expect that support will continue way into the future, regardless of what happens with DragRaceCentral.

Larry you didn't mention IHRA or other sanctioning bodies...any word on those?

I never understood Summit dropping Fletchers sponsorship and giving all the money to Anderson and Line. Lets be honest most of there business is grass roots racing and street cars and they can associate with Fletchers cars more than those Pro Stockers. Just an observation.

Nothing additional is planned at the present time. Our budget is stretched pretty thin already.

Take a hint from Ford Motor Co. Drop the Pro sponsorship and you would have plenty of money to spend.

Re: Drag Race Central closing???

Perhaps, rather than punishing Summit, what people should do is tell Summit why they buy parts there when they buy parts.

Maybe Larry could modify the website with a link to Summit that racers could use when they order parts, so that Summit could know what Drag Race Central does for them.

GUMP 01-20-2014 11:56 AM

Re: Drag Race Central closing???

One major reason for sponsoring the professional racers is that they get way more exposure. I am sure that the fans in the stands and watching TV buy a lot more stuff than we do.

As far as companies sponsoring things that are aimed towards us, I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea to let them know that we appreciate their support of things that are important to us. It doesn't hurt to let them know that their support of a certain entity is the reason for the current order that we are sending their way.

Bottom line is that this is about business. It has to be good for all involved or it fails.

I won't totally disagree, especially in this economy. But a nice little marketing tool Summit will lose themselves, is the convenience of checking out DRC then jump to Summit when ordering parts which I did many times. Call me lazy, but I found it very helpful.

This is sad to here because dragracecentral was my opportunity to get the most comprehensive results year to year, and exceeds that of any other site I've seen that's comparable. The live timing sites are great but are excessive for most peoples needs which made dragracecentral so great. I will surely miss it! I have no idea how I will follow Comp Eliminator and Super Stock round by round now.

From how I read Larry Sullivan's reply you will get the national event information, as before, and the divisional information at the end of the day. It's not like we're not going to get this information, just won't be as timely as it was. We will survive. ;-)

Most GOOD local speed shops can match and occasionally beat their pricing

Re: Drag Race Central closing???

How this brings back memories of waiting for the National Dragster in the mail......to see if anyone "hit" your national record, thus the "index" you had to run on.... (Yep I am old)

I will be disappointed if we only get division race information at the end of the day. As I get older, and attend fewer races, DRC is my lifeline. But, realistically, in these economical times, I also understand where advertisers need to cut back. Personally, In the case of Summit (in which I buy probably 90% of my stuff).....I would like for them to consider only one Pro Stock car instead of Two.....and "plowing" a portion of the advertising funds back into DRC.

Regardless of a Summit decision, I will probably still buy from them because of pricing, service and availability.

We are facing the times when High Performance parts are not in demand.....IMO...anyone with a muscle car already has a garage full of parts. Very few are building new ones. So, suppliers are required to diversify and spread out to "off road", "dirt car", and "street rods"...Summit has already done this.

My local Speed Shop is fantastic.
The owner is a member here.
He has helped me with several projects and is now helping me make the move to Class Racing from Brackets.
His prices are always competitive and his after sales support is second to none.
