Any news on your rig, Carl?

Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
Carl. I hope they find your rig. You have more to go on than I did last year when they broke into my enclosed trailer in a storage yard in central Texas. I was fortunate to get a detective assigned to the case who never gave up and was able to recover some of the items including the complete stocker engine they stole. Three of the five people involved go to trial next month and there is plenty of evidence to convict. While it will still take me another year to replace everything I lost the good news is that if they recovered my stuff there is reason to hope that they will find yours. There has been a rash of enclosed trailers broken into so please everyone take every precaution you can to protect yours. Mike McMahan

Nov 6, 2013 6:20CST Update
First off, I want to thank everybody who has called, emailed, texted etc. over the past few days to offer help or condolences. The drag racing community is special in that way - who else would loan parts to their next round opponent just because they are in need? Certainly not the norm in today's world - and it makes me proud to be a part of the drag racing community. The trailer was recovered yesterday morning by the Grand Prairie, TX police department. I checked it out this morning at the impound lot - a bittersweet experience to be sure. All the good stuff is gone - my beautiful B/SA Camaro, the Honda Q3500 generator, a brand new transmission from Remac (thanks Leo - sorry I never got to run it!), a set of S&M lifters etc......you get the idea. So now I have a trailer that needs a bunch of repair from the butchery inflicted to open it up and strip it - and no car to haul around or race. Detectives from several cities are coordinating the investigation as my car was taken by a well-known set of thieves who have been very busy in this area the last month. Let's hope they can find the car before too long. In the meantime I have offered a substantial - no questions asked - $$ reward for the return of the car. I am hopeful that somebody knows somebody who knows somebody who can figure out a way to get the car out of hiding and returned in order to collect the reward. I just want to go racing again in my car. |
Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
Very sorry to hear this. A friend of mine just went through this and fortunately he got the car back and actually raced last weekend. If you haven't done it already, make a post on Yellow Bullet. I know a lot of guys on here don't go on there, but between that site, Chrysler Power Magazine (in this situation they don't particularly care what emblem is on the grille), and Facebook, someone saw the car and called the local police in Philly.

Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
Your a lucky man so far. What I liked to read was that the cops are coming to the party and are actually helping you, virtually unheard of these days.
I hope they keep up the investigation. Hang in there. |
Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
I am so sorry to hear about this and I can only imagine that this would be so difficult to deal with. I have been looking into the "Steal Shield" has anyone used this? I leave my trailer in my driveway and am paranoid that someone could come swipe it. Does anyone have any recommendations for keeping it on lock down?

Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
I keep my trailer inside of my shop. If I had to store it outside or at a storage facility I would have something like Lojack or some other tracking device installed along with an alarm system to alert me if the trailer is moved.
I had my shop broken into years ago. The car was not stolen but it was stripped and all of my tools and loose parts were taken. I eventually caught the person responsible by networking with people that deal in parts of questionable origin. I got most of my parts back. The thief went to court and the court withheld ajudication. Basically got 5 years probation and set free. He had to pay restitution to me for the rest of the missing parts. Took him 5 years to settle with me on the restitution. Hopefully you will find your car and all will be good On a side note. I did my own investigation along with the police. I rode with the detectives when they were checking leads and I gave them the name of the person that did the crime. I located him and called the detective so they could come and arrest him. My point is you have to be proactive in the search if you want to find your car and who is responsible. |
Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
Carl,
Hope you get more good news soon. While I know this happens everywhere, this is too close to home for me! You mentioned that the police are looking at "a well known set of thieves". Hopefully that will help. Did they give you any more info than that, on who these people are and where they are working out of? Sure there are a lot of us around here that would like to know that... Good luck. Ken |

Man, I feel for you. There's nothing that pisses me off more than some low life scums that have no issue in screwing up someone like this. They know that the retribution is definately worth the effort IF they get got. This is the system I use. http://www.protecsystemone.com/ Admittidly expensive, but if it prevents a theft once, I fiqure it's paid for. I like the features of pager, phone alert, motion sensor, & it will lock the brakes up solid once activated. I also use an electric tongue jack with 2 hitch locks that I have strategically wired in a toggle switch so I can power down the jack so the tonque height can't be changed. The system & the power to run it is also stategically placed,so, f you don't know where it is, you ain't going to find it. ie: it can't be F'd with. Is this all a guarantee, no, but it makes a pretty good deterant. hope all works out the best it can for you. Keep us informed liteweight liteweight |

In the meantime I have the video footage of the theft - and as soon as I figure out how to upload it online I will put it out everywhere for people to see. I have no doubt that somebody knows who these guys are and where my car is. Let's hope the reward money and the desire to make this right will yield a good result. |

Anything lately on finding your car & parts ???

Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
Since a "well known set of thieves" stole your car and trailer, why are the police in Texas just accepting the situation?

Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
I feel your pain.......Hate hearing this stuff!
One of my good friends came out of a hotel at Goodguys Columbus at 5:30 am to meet PHR for a photo shoot and one of his two rigs (the one for the shoot) was gone! Ford F350 dually and enclosed trailer never recovered. The just completed custom Nova was found a few months later inside of another stolen trailer on a farm in Belfountaine, OH - scarred and with the engine destroyed like they put a brick on the accelerator. Evidently, a drug dealer owned the farm and had a bunch of young addicts stealing anything and everything in exchange for drugs. He recovered and repaired the car and it was then in PHR the next year. |

Several other departments and detectives are now involved and perhaps something will come of it. They have no shortage of information to work from - I have provided a mountain of info to them which has led to some arrests but so far no recovery. I haven't given up - but it's frustrating to say the least. The more this has gone on the more I have seen and heard - the amount of douche bags who deal in stolen goods and other crimes is staggering - boggles the mind in fact. |

which allowed the car to be moved twice and change hands.
This is a very disturbing statement. I can see following the car to get the higher ups in this ring or whatever is the case. But da*n |
Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
Crazy thought here .....why not hire a thief to steel from a thief???
Just saying...........what if ?? |
Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
Sorry to hear about the theft of your car and trailer. I am glad that you got the trailer back, but I am hoping that you get that beautiful Camaro and your spare parts back too. I feel for you because it has to be a shocking loss to find out that your stuff has been stolen. Good luck!!!

Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
Sorry for your loss. So much anger goes through my mind when I hear about dirt bags stealing peoples hard earned "stuff". I always think about this when I leave my car in the trailer over night. I cant even imagine the sick things that would come to my mind if I caught someone or knew of the person who stole my car. Hopefully good things will come to you and maybe the car will be recovered. My only suggestion would be hire a private investigator....find out where the car is and go get it with some of the sickest, most craziest friends you have. We all have one or more friend that just loves stuff like that. A good PI would be able to find it in a few days.

Re: 28' Vintage Trailer & 1969 Camaro B/SA Car Stolen
Sorry but I am confused. Did you have insurance on your rig? If someone takes it and you are insured your insurance company will pay. Insurance is cheap for what we as racers have invested. Why would you not. Just saying. Sorry for your lost. Hope the SOB are found.
