Who got those awards?
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
Agree with Chuck B, wonder how these awards are determined?

Re: Brent Jones got screwed
I agree, that car is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. Mike Roth did a fantastic job on every detail. I'm not sure who takes credit for the paint work but the whole car is top notch from bumper to bumper.
I'm sure being the Chevrolet U.S Nationals had something to do with not winning either award. Like Chuck said, politics. |

Now who don't think politics plays a part in the decisions? |

The Driller car is over-the-top!!! |
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
I nothing against the driller car, but didnt the paul pitman build that pro stock car himself?.....no love for a diyer?
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
I have no problem with the best engineered award. I think that was warranted. But best appearing should've gone to the driller hands down.
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
The more times I went to look at this car the more stuff I ran across. The trunk was over the top.

Re: Brent Jones got screwed
I wonder how many Chevies have won best appearing at the MOPAR Mile Highs?
It's politics, it's dumb, it's also kissing the event sponsor's rear. And somebody drinking Gatorade was told to leave the staging lanes at Indy? Really? |
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
That car may have sold me on the new Challys! I saw a bunch of pictures [mainly the trunk] somewhere in a thread but now I can't find it...can anyone point me in the right direction?
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
I was at the race for 4 days and had the opportunity to see both door cars up close. The pro-stocker is a work of art. I wonder if some of the responses on here are biased toward the Mopar because it is a class car and likely a friend to many on this site ? Politics was likely involved with the selection but as someone else mentioned, when was the last GM car selected at the Mopar Mile high race ?

Re: Brent Jones got screwed
Both Pitman's P/S and "The Driller' were Scott Brown designs with paint by Tim Hachinski/Scott Brown and crew @ Hachinski Race Paint.

Re: Brent Jones got screwed
Brent's car is really impressive, fantastic top to bottom! Definitely should have won best appearing if not best engineered. I heard Mopar is giving him recognition in Mopar Magazine as well as an award.

Re: Brent Jones got screwed
All I can say is that is the best looking car top to bottom I have seen in my life. The detail was like nothing I have ever seen before. The silver bullet was bad ***** but this car was over the top.
Mike @ MR2 hit it out of the park. This was total BS on NHRA part, what was so cool about that dragster? Brent welcome to NHRA racing, unfortunately the driller got drilled in the ***** on this one. |
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
A big time magazine did a photo shoot at the top end Friday. ;)
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
you know , maybe NHRA needs to make a pro and sportsman award for both deals, all it is a wally (which is kept in stock), so...................
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
First off, I have to say that both Mike Roth from MR2 Performance and Mr. Jones(also owner of Lyons Dragway, 3-time Div.3 track of the year, and they dont even host a Divisional!) are two of the nicest people you will ever meet and would give you the shirt off their backs. That being said, shame on the NHRA depriving both of these gentlemen their more than deserving accolades. One, a "jig" based built pro stocker, built along side 25 other ones at the same time and the other a dragster which has all flat panels which come in a million removable pieces! All because the title sponsor was a different manufacturer than the obvious choice vehicle for BOTH awards, hands down, doesn't justify NHRA's political decision. Pro's should never recieve any awards other than the Big Wally for winning the race and not being an a$$hole but neither should a dragster. These two gentlemen spent the last 3 years preparing and perfecting this masterpiece for this wekend and moment in time. NHRA, whomever makes these decisions, should be discusted that they once again found away to kick a good "Sportsman" while he is down! For SHAME!

Re: Brent Jones got screwed
The Driller was the best looking car on the property for sure hats off to Brent and Mike for building such a nice piece.
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
I agree with everything said. Pictures cannot do the car justice. I got a couple or two of nice cars, but that thing is really the best I have seen.
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
I got screwed as well at Bristol in 2008 , Brand new B&B cobalt , first cobalt in the country with a LS1, and the only one and very fast . Award went to a pro car and dragster . Stuff happens I got over it . NHRA does what they like and it has nothing to do with what's right. The Driller was bad *** and got my vote
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
Sounds just like a lot of people you come across in this world...They just do what they like and it has nothing to do with what is right. They usually create a justification for their actions. I try to avoid falling into this situation. It is an easy way of life to fall into.

Re: Brent Jones got screwed
There are so many nice cars, well engineered ones etc at Indy. It is really hard to pick one over the other. I am not a big fan of SC rear engine dragsters, I just see so many out there. This one was nice too. Pittman's car is a Chevy, and it is a nice one.
I saw the Driller. It is cool! That being said, if we don't agree with the judging process, please don't make it someones fault for being selected. Send your DD an e mail asking them to reconsider their selection process. My two cents anyway. BTW, my stuff won't ever be in the hunt in either category! I did get an award for an oil down though! LOL. |

Beautiful detail on this super stocker. Imagination, Engineering, Performance, a true work of art. Had my vote for best appearing.

Re: Brent Jones got screwed
Just who exactly decides who gets the special awards at nationals?????????????????
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
Wholly Smolly....that car is NICE! Previos pictures did no justice to that car.
I received best appearing at a national event first tim out with new paint job. I was not only humbled, but stunned. But still very proud of the award. I would say Mr. Driller has his turn coming. That car is to nice to ignore!!!!! |
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
From what I was told a few years ago its the press that decides the awards at national events
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
Tech crew decides and some have more stroke than others.
|
Re: Brent Jones got screwed
My dad said this was the nicest car he has ever seen, and he can fabricate anything as nice as anyone, those oil rigs on the fenderwells are bead rolled in, not just painted. Herb said this car isn't just a race car, from a fabricators stand point its a work of art.
