"Live" from Bristol 2013

We are on our way! It is supposed to be about 95 at the house this afternoon, so I hope it is not going to be that bad in Bristol! The weather is showing some storms today and tomorrow, but Friday and Saturday look great and then a little more chance of rain on Sunday. With any luck, hopefully we will still be there then. Right now it is warm and sunny! We will be posting more on the way!

Save travels Patsy & Larry!!! I am headed to Lebanon Valley for the D1 race later this afternoon. Gotta love the fact its 85 miles from the farm traveling all back roads!

Currently 56 degrees here and wet! Just planted my vegetable garden...hope we don't get a late frost!

Hey Karen, see ya somewhere down the road later in the year!

Any of you coming across I-40 thru TN watch out for the policemen! They have been everywhere today!

Re: "Live" from Bristol 2013

When you hit that deer, you enjoyed Leroy Troy’s tribute to road kill with “Five Pounds of Possum”.

When you get to Bristol, and there’s not much room to maneuver your tow rig, perhaps Leroy’s “Give Me 40 Acres and I’ll Turn This Rig Around” will be an inspiration:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgYBFVdOQVc"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgYBFVdOQVc[/ame]

Who couldn’t love the great Leroy Troy?

I love it!!!

We are here! For all of you who are coming in and stacking--You need to go 11E in front of the main Bristol entrance and come in and stack at the North Entrance. As we came in on 394, we followed the arrows for participants that took us to the entrance at the Dragstrip, then a nice policeman told us we need to turn around (since nobody is parked in that area much, there was enough room). Tomorrow it may not be as easy! There is a sign about stacking at that entrance, but not until you get to it. We are # 23 in line, so hopefully we get a good spot!

Re: "Live" from Bristol 2013

Well we got the grand tour of the racetrack here this evening by Mike Welfel and his grandson. So hopefully we will get a nice spot in the morning. We have been sitting outside enjoying the company of Jim and Pam Marshall, Vic Guilimino, Ben Wenzel and Duck. I just came back in the motorhome because it is hot and humid even tonight. Looks like we may get a little rain tomorrow. I took a couple of pics I will post a little later. Wish Scott was here enjoying all this with us. You just never know. I am just so glad we have had an opportunity to meet so many wonderful people along the way!

Bypass that 5 pounds of possum and stop at (I think Partner's) BBQ on the road side near The racetrack. There is another BBQ place (I cant remember the name or location) that is hard to find and out of the way but very good. Ask some people in the know and they can put you on it. Im not getting to go due to work. Get plenty of ice cuz it is going to be HOT there. Hope every one has a great time. Don Jackson

Well it is overcast and muggy this morning. Rain is supposed to show up about 11. About when we will probably be getting parked. They are not supposed to start parking til 10. A few more rigs came in overnight, but it doesn't look like more than 40 or so total.

I will post a little more after I get out and about.

Re: "Live" from Bristol 2013

We are in and parked down in the lower area. If it floods us out, I would like it known that I wanted to park up on high ground. There is electricity down here, but we don't have a long enough cord to plug in. They started parking early because of the chance of rain.

Well we got teched and put the car back in the trailer before the storm hit. It poured rain for about 15 minutes and now we are in between showers. We are under a severe storm watch til 8 tonight. Then it looks like we will be good til Sunday.

Re: "Live" from Bristol 2013

The second round of storms are hitting now and the rain has a little bit of ice in it, let just hope the ice stays little. Damage from the first storm was limited to some sponsors awnings being damaged on the midway. Tech and credentials went smoothly for most. A lot of people were questioning the sudden increase in penalties and fines by NHRA. There was some discussion on why the new cars have a choice of four classes to run at the U. S. Nationals and the remainder of the category only has a choice of three, you know the natural class and up or down one class.

The topic that had everyone surprised was the passing of Scott Helms yesterday. Everyone that heard the news that knew Scott was shocked and saddened.

Re: "Live" from Bristol 2013

Sorry Brian (aka Quack)! I guess someday I need to get the story behind the nickname!

It has turned into a nice night. We have been out riding around and seeing where we should have parked! There are only 3 rigs in stacking right now. Jerry Bennett is the first one in line for tomorrow, then Monty Bogan, then Ray Skillman! Parking up on the hill is a lot nicer than down here in the swamp, so the late arrivers (is that a word?) should be fine on parking.

Looks like we should have a great day tomorrow for class!

Its Bristol, I turned on the Crew Chief Pro and it showed the barometer over a full point lower than Atlanta.

We get two Q runs then Class today, it should be some good races.

Got to go and ready for the fun today.

I am not sure if this is your first time there, but I think you might be surprised as to how slow it can be there.Good Luck.

Yes it's slow there but still one of my favorite tracks to race at....

Well it is a beautiful day here in Thunder Valley! Blue sky and not a cloud to be seen! Looks like it might be a fast day comparatively speaking for Bristol. It is 64 degrees right now going up to a high of 80 today. We have 2 runs, then class!

More later!

Good luck to all, and keep us updated.
One of my favorite tracks also. Really pretty in the fall, when leaves start to change!

Just made our first run! Slow, slow! 55 cars made first hit, with Edmond Richardson being #56, but something happened on the starting line to his car. It looked like the track was hooking. Our 60 foot wasn't great, but Larry said he didn't think he spun. More later!

Great crowd in the stands. Both people looked awake.-----Man I hate to see our drag racing take such a hit.

Re: "Live" from Bristol 2013

Welcome to Bristol(slow, slow, slow!). One might as well leave the weather station/et predictor in the box there because it will lie to ya! With that being said, it is a beautiful place and quite a nice facility and after all, it's slow for everybody so, no big concern of triggering the AHFS. Not so much 1000' racing here.

Very true Bernie! Although allowing the two together can result in big entertainment; making the safety risk almost worth it! LOL

We won 1st round of class, but we have Robbie Shaw next. Lots of people had trouble spinning on the line that round. They didn't do anything to the track before we ran like they did earlier.
