Buck Kinney's 72 chevelle ss at BJ auction

Buck's chevelle is slated to go up Fri. lot # 1119. They have it listed as a 454, I'm sure he ran a 402 in SS/JA. It set a few nat. records as I recall. I think Buck sold it. I'm sure Grant E. can clarify this. What do you think it will bring?.

Buck set six records with that car, most in SS/JA but I think one in SS/KA. It was sold with a 402, as he had raced the car. If I recall correctly, the records were set at Calgary, Ashcroft, Woodburn, Boise and Seattle, but not certain. Buck sold the car to Wayne Darby, who continued racing the car until auctioning it last time at BJ. Apparently it will be auctioned in the evening, 7-9 approximately our time. Be interesting to see what it goes for this time around, if memory serves it went around $110k last time?...

Does anyone know what Buck's old Chevelle sold for? Seen it at the end of the staging lanes in the covered area . Seems like the Pig on the plane commercial and the fantasy bid cars @8:55pm on Friday night helped to cut the coverage short, the last cars to cross were a couple of Reggie Jackson's.

:):) I remember seeing this car in action at Pacific Raceway (S.I.R. back then). Was always fun to watch this big car lift the front wheels and run that fast. With all the records and paperwork that went with the car I'm a little dissapointed at the selling price. Guess local heros aren't as appealing as the big names. Still a great car with an awesome history.

It went for 50,600. I thought when Hoffman ran it in the mid 70's it had a 71 LS-6, in FA. Maybe different car.

I remember seeing it at the local car shows back when Buck first acquired it and also remember it having a 454. It still had Hoffman Machine on the front fenders with unpolished Super Tricks. Will never forget the wheelstands and how much Buck would thrash on it, convertor and camshaft changes at the track were quite common sometimes 2 or 3 a day...Maurice.

I could easily be wrong but I thought that car was why we ran the 402 instead of the 454 after some of its performances with the 454

Maurice and Ron,,, thats the way I remember the car also,, although there was someone else, for a brief time, that ran a Chevelle convertible too. I don't recall who that was.

Danny, Cyrus Gallant up here has a 70 Chevelle SS convertible that runs in A&B/SA with a LS6 454. It is green with white stripes & white top. Cyrus hasn`t ran the car for a few years now, but still has it in his garage. He has owned it for almost 40 years now. By the way, Cyrus` son Justin is a regular in our Super Shifter group, with a mid 10 second blue 85 Mustang. So he has been to Bremerton several times.
As for Buck Kinneys S/S Chevelle ragtop, other than the wheels, and a but of lettering, it looked pretty much the same on the outside when he sold it, as it did when I started racing in 1974.

Danny,
Buck bought the Chevelle with a 425hp 454 from Hoffman, and ran it the first year that way while he completed his 402. The following season, first time out he set the National Record at Mission with the new 402.
Spoke with Buck today, he's still making big horsepower for his customers. They dyno'd a 630" big block at Jim Richmond's yesterday, built for a customer, at 1360hp and 8000 rpm!! Pretty awesome, I'd say.....
