Your Daily Driver

I knows this is not Stock and Super Stock related, but I thought since its off season it might be and interesting conversation. Besides I think the boss wont mind if a bend the rules a bit. I think this topic has come up before, but I thought it would be fun again.
What is your daily driver? The car or truck you drive most of the time. I know many of us have more than one car and you can list them all, but I would like to know what you drive the most. Show pictures if you can. For members uploading as attachments I have increase the size to 800x600. I just purchase a new car, I was tired of driving a old car and have not bought a new car in a long time. I put about 20,000 miles year and wanted something fun to drive, decent mpg and utility. Because of my connection with Ford Racing I was able to get a good price on a Ford, so that's what I went with. Now I know some of you guys are laughing at my choice, but the car works for me. Any other thoughts about your dd or any of your street cars, please feel free to talk about them. 2013 Focus ST, 252hp and its a blast to drive. |
Re: Your Daily Driver
Great choice Ken! 250 hp in a pocket sized car is great everyday fun-why drive something boring if you don't have to?
Mine is an 05 MINI Cooper S-240 crank/210 dynoed -at -the -wheels hp, 2600 lbs of stick shift fun, 26 mpg too! http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/h...511-Edit-2.jpg |

Ken love the ST! If I hadn't got the Veloster in September I would have held out for that one for sure.
Sadly no race cars in my stable....but several fun daily drivers. The most recent purchase is a 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo, that made its maiden voyage to Bristol this past fall for the D2 race. Followed closely by my 1973 BMW 2002, that has become not only a daily driver, but my tow dinghy car to take to the track. She was a hit a Reynolds. Yes I do drive it every day....either to drop my daughter off at school or pick her up. Then I have a faithful 2001 Ford F150XL with power NOTHING...basic and a keeper! (no picture...you all know what they look like!) Can't count the Corvair as a daily driver. She is the garage princess at the Vermont house, but did make an appearance this year at Lebanon Valley! -Karen |

Re: Your Daily Driver
I saw the beutiful vehicles you guys drive down in the rust free states and thought I'd share an eastern Canada rust bucket.
Bought it 7 years ago at an auction for $1200. 93 f-350 4 door diesel, just rolled over 800,000km's 23rd of Nov. Yup it's old.....and very rusty....runs on diesel, furnace oil, tranny fluid but mostly veggie oil and gets 25-28mpg. Here it is at the track in all it's glory http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b4...une2012019.jpg eeehhh...maybe that wasn't such a hot idea after all....LOL How about a thread on ugliest daily drivers? LOL! |
Re: Your Daily Driver
2003 Focus SVT in Competition Orange. Has the European Appearance Package. Somewhat rare. Bought it about a year-and-a-half ago as I wanted something that got 25+ MPG, was fun, and not another old Civic. Found this for $5,600 with about 15,000 miles on new hone / rings / bearings (a previous owner had an open element air-filter and didn't clean it).
These are 2400#'s, 170HP (+40 over the "good" focus engine), 6-speed instead of 5-speed, special handling package with 215x45x17" wheels, 4WDB with 11" rotors, Traction Control, HID lighting, killer exhaust with factory stainless header, leather Recaro seats, variable cam timing and variable length intake runner. These things were $24,000 MSRP in 2003! I've since added a 67mm TB (+2mm), tune calibration, hi-flow cat and better flex pipe, adjustable Koni's, 225x45x17 Michelin Pilot Super Sports, a 7 1/2 # flywheel with kevlar clutch, short-throw shifter and the other day I added Eiebach sway bars. I've had Hemi cars, Six-Pack cars, CJ's, BBC's, all sorts of cars even if for only brief periods on some. But I gotta say, this is the most fun car I've ever owned. It handles like a go-kart, hits 7500 RPM and is still pulling, and the brakes will throw you through the front windshield. Worst case MPG is 24 driving like I stole it and 28 MPG still having fun but not abusing it. I'm dying to take it to a road course which is a bucket list thing. I'd love to take on Ken's ST at a road course! And if I needed a new car today, I'd buy a new Focus ST in Screamin' Tangerine. http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...X/IMG_2363.jpg |

Re: Your Daily Driver
Great thread! Currently driving a BMW 335, if you've never had the opportunity to drive one on a road course then trust me, you owe yourself a treat. First BMW was a 1995 M3 when they first came out and I am hooked forever so guess I'll remain "car poor".
Jeff, I had a Focus SVT, fantastic little car and I'm anxious for my son to pick up his new ST so I can wring it out. Hurry, somebody start a "your favorite motorcycle" thread! |
Re: Your Daily Driver
I drive just what everyone would expect me to drive,1992 Geo Metro LXI. Slightly breathed on engine, 58 MPG. Never gets less than 50.
I'm hoping to have an XFI transaxle in it (3.79 final drive vs. 4.29) by the spring Fla. races and will be looking for 60. |
Re: Your Daily Driver
I'm driving a '93 Ford Ranger, getting ready to roll over on 300,000 miles.
Bought it for $1000 with 110,000 miles on the clock ten years ago. Unlike Billy ,I want the big numbers on the odometer ,not the mpg.....but it does get 23mpg,and has hauled over a ton of concrete in the bed ! |
Re: Your Daily Driver
My daily driver is Monique, I believe she is from the eastern part of France. On the weekends, Caroline from Berkshire UK usually drives as Monique is off Sat & Sun. Once in a while though I have Holly from Burbank CA take me around.
Living here in "The Mansion" near the shore, not to be confused with The Imperial Palace, it gets quite difficult to consider driving when you have all these beautiful chauffeurs available. Well, enough about my situation, take care, ta ta. Ron Ortiz U/SA I am only allowed to drive the wagon |

My daily driver for the last 6 years is 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra. Metallic silver with a 6spd manual transmission. It has a few modifications including a twin screw supercharger. The car makes 700 HP and gets 23 MPG. Drive it everyday that there isn't snow on the ground(which even sometimes that doesn't stop me). I bought it used at a GM dealership that the gentlemen traded it in on a Corvette. It had 1,900 miles on it completely stock except for a tuner. He originally purchased the car new from Anderson Ford. I turned 57,100 on it today. We also drive the wheels of the 07 Ford 500(wifes Daily Driver). We drive it when the family is wanting to go somewhere or we just want a nice relaxing drive. Bought it new from Ray Skillman clicked over 100,000 miles this last weekend. Yes we are an all Ford family :)

Daily drivers / race cars
The 300 took 3 gold cards in a row with me driving. This year I gave it to my son and he drove it to 2nd place in pts his first year racing. over 100,000 miles on the clock The challenger was my new daily driver this year. I think its made it home from the track one time this year without breaking something. :( less then 10,000 miles on the clock http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/b...C00084Copy.jpg |

2005 Toyota Camry with 310K.
Nice big scratch down the length of the drivers side from being to close to an open mailbox door, and a pushed in front bumper( can't say dented because its rubber) from an "incident". You'll understand if I don't post any photos. |

Ken - Glad to see you got a new ride as I thought you'd be driving that Volvo till we buried your remains .That said I certainly hope you didn't spend my Christmas bonus money on your new vehicle as I am really up against it this season and am counting on getting it soon - matter of fact I've been questioning my mailman lately on why it hasn't arrived .
Pictured below are a couple of shot I took recently of my new driver - had to cut back on expenses recently because of some purchases I made .I'll be OK as soon as my check arrives ..........And Merry Christmas ! ! ! ! BTW , my "new" ride tows well . |

Don't know that you can call it a daily driver, as my graphic design business is home-based, so this 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4.7L might get a trip to the store now and then, but it's typically towing a car and trailer. Usually gets around 12-13mpg towing, but has hit 15.0 mpg towing on flatland at the speed limit. Over 192,000 miles on it now. I even put a set of spark plugs in it once. Been a great truck. I specifically bought a 1500 so I wouldn't even be tempted to buy an enclosed trailer. It's saved me a ton of money! :D |

Re: Your Daily Driver
My "old" daily driver is also my part time bracket car,a `79 Olds 98 Regency 4 door I bought in 2004 for $300. Went 8 rounds with it in a foot brake jackpot in Sept running 20.20`s. My "new" daily driver is a `72 GMC 3/4 ton "camper special" with a 406 with Holley fuel injection. Decent looking with a new topper and tires.

2005 F-350 4X4 6.0L Diesel just turned 60K. Bought used, found on E-Bay and when it did not sell I contacted the owner and we made a deal. He told me he got 17mpg on the road, I thought, RIGHT! I got 17 on the way home from Iowa. Topper has added weight and I can only get 16 now, but it's all good.

Re: Your Daily Driver
86 C-10, ugly as hell, somewhere in the 160k mile range, getting a 5.3 this spring.
