afco spring sliders
hello to all, I have a 2 part question for the mopar guys. are any of you guys running rear spring sliders on your cars, and can you give some input as to how they have helped the car? also, at what angle should they be installed, flat or nose down? this is for my 67 belvedere bracket car with superstock springs. not sure if you guys are allowed to use them in stock eliminator, but maybe have some experience with them. thank you in advance.

Re: afco spring sliders
I assume you are using ladder bars? They are not allowed in stock.

Re: afco spring sliders
Any spring slider or pivot type axle housing mount is used in conjuction with a ladder bar or link system that positively locates the axle without using the spring for that purpose. They cannot be used on a leaf spring only rear suspension. In your application you might be better served by asking about something like a Calvert traction bar setup.

Re: afco spring sliders
He is talking about the AFCO rear shackles. The rear leaf connects to the shackle with a roller bearing that slides fore / aft. The shackle assembly bolts to the rear frame and the spring can then move with the roller.
To answer the question, I believe you have full race weight and driver. Adjust so the slider is at mid-travel. I have not used so I can't offer any other advice. |

Re: afco spring sliders
They are not worth the work. I had similar ones on my car when I used leaf springs. I did not like them and put the shackles back on.

Mike,
What do you perceive as the problem? I'm considering them on my car. |

Jeff
The side brackets with the slots that the springs were supposed to slide in were made from thin mild steel. The bolt through the spring was a 1/2 inch bolt with a thin wall mild steel sleeve that was supposed to roll on the bolt. The sleeve wore a groove in the slot and the slot wore a groove in the sleeve. So it actually was in a bind. I think the ones I had were either moroso or SRD. I guess if you made your own with a thicker bracket with the slot and made the slot wider where you could use an actual roller bearing it would be a good system. Maybe make the side bracket from some 1/2 inch aluminum plate with the slot milled in to match the diameter of a roller bearing. Then you would have something. |

We stock and sell a lot of them.
Many go out with Cal-Trac system orders. I love the way they work and even have them on my own car. Same AFCO's since 1998. See pics. They do need to be lubricated 3-4 times a year. We also stock some really cool billet aluminum shackles for racers who do not want to go through the extra work. |
