IHRA Engine Blueprint Specs ????
Hey guys,
Am I just being blind, or does IHRA not have blueprint specs on thier website like NHRA does ??? |
Re: IHRA Engine Blueprint Specs ????
use NHRA specs except for Crate motors which are listed on IHRA. A few other exceptions as well such as can run an automatic in a car that originally was manual only, some different carbs allowed, etc. If you have a question about a specific spec, call them.

Super Stock connecting rods are legal in Stock Eliminator in IHRA.Not so in NHRA. |
Re: IHRA Engine Blueprint Specs ????
Since NHRA publishes a list of acceptable stock/superstock replacement rods, I figure most professional engine builders go with one that is on the list for a given combination.
If someone builds two identical engines, with the exception of stock legal rods in one, and superstock legal rods in the other, how much performance gain could be expected? |
Re: IHRA Engine Blueprint Specs ????
Maybe try this. I haven't looked at it all, but it might offer some help.

Only the top (combustion chamber side) of the piston has to "LOOK" correct when viewed from an assembled short block. The dish/dome still have to measure correct. They dont care what it is like below the deck (moved rings, thinner ring pack, lite pins, lite pistons, valve relief location and depth, etc.). Performance gain? I would think the IHRA car could beat the NHRA car in a heads up! |
Re: IHRA Engine Blueprint Specs ????
This is just my guess, but I figure the majority of people building or running a regular stocker in IHRA can or do run it in NHRA as well. I don't think there are too many purpose built IHRA regular stockers.

Re: IHRA Engine Blueprint Specs ????
I talked to Mike Baker the other day about this, and he said that the NHRA specs which are posted on the NHRA site, are what is used. But because they are copyrighted material, he just points forlks to them, rather than simply copy them to the IHRA website which would be wrong to do.
But those specs pretty much apply. David The New Hemi Guy |

Re: IHRA Engine Blueprint Specs ????
I hate to burst your bubble, but when I was getting ready to build my "stocker" engine the VERY well known builder I called quoted me $95.00 each for the "boxed stocker" pistons or if I wanted to be competitive, $145.00 each for the same pistons but lightened.....confused me, so I am still on the fence, almost $1200.00 just for pistons.....

Re: IHRA Engine Blueprint Specs ????
when it comes to HP ratings make sure you ask IHRA what your combos HP is. They are not always the same. My HP rating with NHRA is 299 and its 295 with IHRA. Ed

Re: IHRA Engine Blueprint Specs ????
You cannot alter pin or ring location, no excessive lightening, no thin ring package must have correct approved # on top of piston.must have same configuration as oem along with same weight as original. pins may be shortened if using full floating option
