Wheels
It's time for new wheels on my Mustang. I would like a retro look, but not sure I can go as far back as Cragar S/S - I like the American Racing Torq Trust Pro - but Geeeeeze are they expensive!
Also - do bead locks present a rear caliper clearance problem? - I use a Lincon rear brake setup on this car. Thoughts? |
Re: Wheels
check the web sites of Hole Shot Wheels and Bogart Racing Wheels. You might find just the wheel.

Re: Wheels
Aren't the Cragar SS wheels relatively heavy?
|
Re: Wheels
Yes they are, although it's been 25 years since I've even lifted a set.

Re: Wheels
Not trying to hijack your thread but with you guys talking about weight. What are the lightest wheels out there?
|
Re: Wheels
I've seen wheels that were awfully light, they were actually CNC-profiled on the back side, but also wound up breaking on a friend's car when he turned onto the return road. If you've got a car with a light front end, a real light wheel would probably be OK. I've looked, there are quite a few relatively light wheels out there including Weld Aluma-Star & Magnum, Billet Specialties Comp Series, Bogart, Holeshot, Sander (builder of American Racing drag wheels), etc.

Re: Wheels
Yeah, light wheels - that's why I'm shopping for wheels. I bought Bogarts as seen in the avatar at left. The screw holes are stripped out from trying to screw into tire beads after a fresh pair of slicks and the tire mounting guys have bent them twice now. So I need something less problematic ...I want to drive my car, not set ET records. So considering a steel rimmed half breed like the Cragar SS has some alure. So do beadlocks, but my rear calipers are probably too large to clear??? I did look at Holeshots website - the Sun Flare looks cool like an old set of Rayder wheels...any more input?

Re: Wheels
Check out the MT wheels too.
They were actually lighter than the Monocoques, but they are stronger and have a nice wide bead. We cracked both front Monocoques on a light 66 Nova that won't turn. Not a good deal. |
Re: Wheels
the M/T wheel is high on my list. too bad they dont offer the beadlock in 15" as all their 16" tires are 16" wide too

See if there is anything here that floats your boat. Very high quality race wheels at a good price. Jim

Re: Wheels
Mickeys are light and we have had NO problems. Bogarts/Mono's/Older Weld
all have been problematical on my 3300 Lb. stocker and have broken around the bead end with disastrous result to front suspension pieces! |
