How long are you on the stop?

With all the talk about changing the index in the super classes, and all the discussions about high mph cars being on the stop for long times - at the same time other people say they couldn't run if the index was lowered, I'm just wondering how long everyone is on the stop for a "typical" pass?

I'm usually 3.100 +/-. (S/G)

Re: How long are you on the stop?

My car ran 9.44 all out with a 200 cfm larger card for the Unleashed races this year. I don't have a throttle control that controls the throttle. My foot is against the throttle stop all the way down the track. The throttle stop is a bolt that is under the throttle pedal that prevents you from tearing the throttle ball off the carb. I believe the throttle stop is required by NHRA under the pedal.:p

My car goes 8.80's @ 151. For SST I have 4 teens in the box to go 145-146.

I voted to leave the indexes alone ~

Re: How long are you on the stop?

I have not ran my car off the stop yet (it was new last year) so I don't know what it will run. I have around 3.5 in the stop and run 9.90 @ 170. It runs 8.90 @ 174-5 with about 2.00 in the timer.

Re: How long are you on the stop?

7.40's full out, 9.90 @ 167, only 167 cause im on the stop for the better part of 5 seconds. Eighth mile mph is only 119. Next year im changing the throttle stop operation and going 9.90 @ 173-175.

RacingRicki 12-15-2010 11:50 PM

Re: How long are you on the stop?

10.90 @148 2.7-2.9 on the stop. Throttle stop RPM and whether or not you come off the stop in high gear makes a difference.

Re: How long are you on the stop?

Bryan call B S all you want but thats the truth, picks 48-50 mph on the back half.

Bryan Gillespie 12-16-2010 01:45 PM

Re: How long are you on the stop?

post a ET slip,I raced all the high MPH guys and none of them picked up 50 on the back 1/2.

Re: How long are you on the stop?

Shift to high at the hit and ride the stop for 3.8ish. Goes 10.90 @ 146 when I'm not pacing someone ;)

Re: How long are you on the stop?

All out 1/4 mile ...don't know? On stop....too long! 9.90 149 to 165 ...just depends on game plan. Vision is tough in my ride (not like those roadsters... see cracks in pavement during run) so normally (;)) set honest.

Bryan, i saw your car for sale a while ago, sell it ? I love that car but i need another car like a hole in the head ! Also, i have honestly picked up as much as 48 mph in the back half. But you did say 50 , and ive not seen that either. I believe a pro stocker only gains about 45 tops, but thats a whole different deal.

Bryan Gillespie 12-18-2010 05:36 PM

Re: How long are you on the stop?

No I didn't sell it, really don't want to and everybody talking me out of it,.
I remember your car is stupid fast, 48mph in the back 1/2 is pullin hard, mine only does 40mph. see ya @ the track

Re: How long are you on the stop?

Flat out 7.53 @176.00
On the T/Stop with 4100rpm .005 on and 1.80 =8.889 @ 172.28
On the T/stop with 4300rpm .005 on and 2.10 =8.903 @ 170.12
Shift on time .05

These two runs were at the Atlanta Div2 event in 2007 on the same weekend.

Now I use two stops when racing, anybody else run two stops on the run or tryed in the past?

Shawn Langdon ran the stop twice in Jim Hughes' roadster at the U.S. Nationals. I imagine they have a lot of different ways to skin the cat.

Re: How long are you on the stop?

From the time I shift (manually) into high, until the end of the track ;) Old school style here. My only recent S/G data has been 1/8-mile (6.30 index), car runs 5.80 @ 118.5 off the stop, 6.300 @ 102.0 on it. I played around at a bracket race last year trying to dial 9.90, IIRC it was something like 9.90 @ 127 compared to 9.20 @ 146. Yes, I know I should just add more weight and run my junk in S/ST...
