Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
Anyone notice that the D7 points race has Nitro Harley attending? Bettery yet, Nitro Harley has 4 qualifying runs scheduled. Meanwhile, Stock & Super Stock have 2 qual runs scheduled. This is according to the schedule posted on the D7 website.
I have been told in the past by the division director, that the reason for only 2 qual runs, is that there are 800+ cars that attend this race and have to be fair to everyone. Let's see 4 qual runs for a category that has nothing to do with a division race and only 2 for categories that do. Yeah, I see how that is fair! Just another reason why I won't support this race, which is in my division. |

Need gate to pay the Alcohol purse? Just speculating here but Nitro Harley will make a bigger draw than dedicated "real" racers; it is Vegas after all.

I will bet that NH 4 qualifying runs and eliminations won't use as much time as 1 round of S/SS qualifying!

Re: Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
You're missing the point. This is supposed to be a points race for the D7 sportsman racers, so give less to the invited guests and not take away from the D7 racers.

Re: Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
Brett,
You're missing the point too. The track needs these deals to help the bottom line. Racing is not a charity and if the track can't make money how many racetracks will be left. Think about the overhead at that place. Chip |
Re: Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
Just like the "Sleds" at the Dutch this year. Why fight it. It's all turning into a circus anyway. The class car's don't count for anything anymore. The stock and S/S car's are to much trouble for NHRA to keep around and their usefulness has run it's course. It's all about a circus show and the bottom line.

Terry,
Sad but true. When will Claasy racers realize YOU ARE NOT THE SHOW |

They've added another run to the schedule for Stock and Super Stock. We will get two runs today. They haven't put out a schedule for Saturday yet, but the word is we will get another qualifier tomorrow before first round. -Toby |
Re: Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
Well in case you haven't noticed the fans get up and leave when the "Remote controlled cars" come up but they still get plenty of runs in, and sit and listen to the fans they love the Class Cars, it's cars they can relate to.I know it's the bottom line, but why can't NHRA be fair about it and stop treating class cars like they are a problem rather than a benifit that they are. Beside who caused all of the delays last weekend at Vegas Nationals ? Also the fact that many of the Top catagory racers started out in Class Cars !! just my view as a racer and sometimes spectator ! but as they say , it's all good ................

Everyone should face the fact that we share the stage, not own it. Granted, it is about the show and NHRA will do things to enhance the show, even penalize the Pro cars if needed. Good example being today's annoucements on oildowns...
http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...18628#indextop Like it not, NHRA and their tracks are going to keep trying things to improve the show and their gate. NHRA Unleashed is the perfect example of that and you can tell they are targeting the younger generation. The demographic of those who either race class or watch every class run down the track possible is a shrinking group indeed (of course we don't quite understand why everyone doesn't love it as much as we do). Don't think any business can survive that relies solely on current class car counts so we share the stage and do everything we can to mentor and encourage any youngster to follow our footsteps. |
Re: Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
Ed,
I agree. I went to Atlanta this year and nobody was there to watch the: Leakers,Remote control cars,or the Classy racers. I'll bet someone told them if they added Nitro Harleys they would pack the place.LOL Chip |
Re: Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
If they get 800+ cars for a points race sombody is making money, harleys or not.

800 cars doesn't put butts in seats.... Nitro Harleys does.... Not my cup of tea but it will put fans in the stands. That equals to jingle in the jeans of the track owners.....:D :D |
Re: Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
Look at it this way guys, NHRA is paying Class Cars and racers a big compliment ! they know we only need 1 pass and we're ready to go. And you are right I'm sure Nitro Harleys' are a big draw, but only if they do some addvertising which NHRA normally doesn't do. I love to watch them run, and take my hat off to the guys ridding those wild Harleys.

Re: Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
I heard over the PA today that Short Line Express stores are giving away free tickets for tomorrow and if you have a ticket from last Sunday it will get you in free this Sunday.

Re: Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
Ed has hit the nail on the head, If you have ever been to a Div 7 race they could put two naked ladies running down the track side by side and there still would be NO FANS !!
not even in Vegas..... |
Re: Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
I can give one reason there aren't many fans. I heard about the Wednesday S/SS combo race here on this site. My wife and I were in town for the SEMA show anyway so we thought we would go watch. I get to the track @ 1:30 in the afternoon Wed. hoping to see some of the later rounds of the shootout. The guy at the gate says no 1 day passes if you want to watch you have to buy a $75 weekend pass. I did not argue maybe I should have. I would have like to have went in but not for $150. I am quite sure the only people in the stands were other racers. This was a shootout not a national event.

"Remote Controlled Cars" , AKA; StutterCars, Robots, Get in & Hang on, Computorized, Electronic Controlled with Human assistance, John Force Wanta B's !
You know the Cars ! The ones that empty the stands. Lol....... |
Re: Nitro Harley at D7 Points Race in L.V.
Brett,
I guess the saving grace is there are not many Nitro Harleys that can make four rounds of qualifying! Even it they do it won't take long to run both of them, even if they get a single! See ya this weekend! |
