What company to buy the front disc barke kit from

Thanks to all who responded to my last question about weight savings on front disc brakes.

Next question,

Where did you get your front brakes from, did you like them. How did they work. Thanks in advance...

Lamb fronts here, they do not drag, and are 38 lbs. lighter than my OE front discs. The fit, quality, and performance are first class.

x2 on Lamb. Took off 44# from OE for me. Might cost a little more but WELL worth it. I also got great service and help from Roger.

I purchased three sets of Aerospace for my F-Bodies. They have all been replaced with Strange!

1) Lamb
2) Mark Williams
3) Strange
4) Willwood

I use MW. Any of the four have an excellent reputation, cost being the deciding factor.
Despite all the hoo-rahs on Aerospace, I've seen too many complaints written about them. I don't think I've ever seen a complaint on the four listed above.

What problems did you have with your Aerospace brakes? Mine have been fine for four years now. Light, don't drag, stop well, and bolted right on. Have been in troublefor smoking all four tires at the stripe. What else are they supposed to do?

In my many years of racing and with numerous cars.....

I have had most all of them and some no longer available.....

Some issues I've had were...

Strange....calipers leaked on strut fronts. Strange sent us different seals and told us to fix them...the struts were nearly new.....
Strange..... rear rotors were cracked and split and that was on my present 7 second dragster!
In their defense the rotors had been cut slightly.....about .025" (not by me).......I would advise no one should cut their race rotors....
Aerospace....Rotor to hat bolts loosened up and tore up the caliper dogbone mount.....lucky I did not have a crash on that one....Very small bolts...and they are allens and countersunk...no way to safety wire them....Poor design....
Wilwood.....My buddies 3000lb car warped the rotors on just a few runs on the front........He had to change to a heavier vented style rotor.....
I installed some Lamb components on one car and they were perfect.....No issues whatsoever and most people know Lamb and Mark Williams are the best by far......

The Wilwood kit I installed on my '97 Firebird on the front worked perfectly and is still working on that car for the present owner with no problems.....

The cost of that kit was less than half of what a Mark Williams or Lamb set would have cost as it used the stock front hubs......I do not recall the name of the company I bought it from but they were in Pa.......and did Street and Race work and the kit was an excellent fit........RaceTech or something like that........

Well said, Jeff!!! I run Mark Williams on all 4 corners. If you're interested Todd, Mike Pustelny can get great pricing on Mark Williams products.

I bought Strange .Had trouble mounting them because my original disc brake spindles had been replaced with some early chevelle drum spindles, and the upper bolt was smaller. One side seems to have more drag than the other.Have reshimmed the caliper a few times but has not changed it.Stops ,and holds in the water alot better though.

I put Wilwood on all 4 corners of my 67 Firebird. Very happy with the kit components and function.

After I bleed them properly, they work great!

I used wilwood HD vented rotor kit on my 3600Lb bb 69 camaro to replace the stock disc setup in front. Kept the stock MC & booster but it still knocked 40lbs total off the front and stops exactly the same as before(which is really good). A friend used the aerospace kit for a similar car and was very disapointed(would not slow a heavy car safely).

I put Wilwood on front and rear of my 62 Chevy. Drums being a bit lighter than OEM disk brakes... my weight savings were not as dramatic. I believe combined weight loss was 48 pounds.
The front was a staright forward bolt-on... though they DO move the wheel mounting outward about 1 1/4". If I did it again, I would do some more research to see if the other manufacturers have something that would put the wheels closer to factory location.

On the rear, Wilwood had no kit for a 59-64 Chevrolet, so I purchased the Ford 8" kit ( after doing some investigation, and calculating ). I then designed and drafted up my own mounting brakets, which were made by my machinist. Fit is flawless.
After a few "break in" stops... these brakes are effortless... and at 3650 pounds from over 120 MPH... that means something !

Todd, what did you end up doing with the brakes on your GTO.

I have heavy stock front spindles and disc brakes on my Chevelle now. I have one bad spindle so I currently am contemplating installing my drum spindles and getting an aftermarket fron kit for my Chevelle 1970.

I decided to go with Mark Williams in the front. I hope to buy them sometime next month, when I start working on my car. They seem like the best deal for me because they pay contegnecy....

Call Stainless Steel Brake Corp. (800-448-7722), they have four piston comp calipers for most cars and are a contingency sponsor for IHRA. I have their stuff on my 3200 # Stocker and they work great in the box, on the line and and at the finish. They also have a cast aluminum Corvette master cylinder that is about 7 pounds lighter than the cast iron version!
