Re: Oil Filter?

Also AC DElCO PF 35L if you can still find them

Re: Oil Filter?

Wix filter hear, also. Make sure it is the racing filter because the regular filters will restrict the flow too much. Wix Racing filters for the SBC part number 51069R for the short and 51060R for the tall filter. One of them will normally fit most applications.

Re: Oil Filter?

I use the System One re usable filter. They cost a little more up front but you never have to buy another filter. Under no circumstances use an AC Delco filter. Some of them have plastic components inside the filter. I lost two engines last year because of these filters. Be real careful with any filter that is not specifically built for a race engine.

NAPA Gold...made by Hastings/Baldwin

Re: Oil Filter?

The AC Delco filters are sourced by Champion, they have the plastic core in the center. The NAPA gold filters are Wix.Motorcraft is a Purolater.

Thanks for the link Dean. I'd like to see someone do this comparo again with current build filters. Any way you cut it, I'm always and always have been scared of Fram.

Re: Oil Filter?

The PF35L is often found with a perforated steel core. However, the media is too fine for a high flow application.

The oil filter for a Duramax seems to always have a perforated steel core, I have yet to find one without it. I think the number is PF2232. It fits small and big block Chevy engines. Never had a problem with one, either.

The K&N filters are good, never had a problem with one, and they can often be found at the chain stores if you need a filter and the NAPA or CarQuest is either closed or too far away.

Yup, I had a Fram come apart years ago and that was the end of that.

Baldwin B253 is a racing filter that was made for Ferrari racing. This is the Mopar Ford filter I don't recall the chevy filter number but can get it and post it later.

Re: Oil Filter?

Thank you guys so it seems that a majority is

1) Wix Racing
2) K&N
3) System 1 etc

Stay away from
1) Fram Racing (I agree!!)
2) AC Delco

Thanks again for the info

Re: Oil Filter?

the AC PF-35L is still available at any GM. dealer parts dept... never any problems with it, they come 12 filters to a case only...I have 3 cases at home. I use AC- oil filter on all my cars. BTW AC oil filter is made by Delphi in mexico buy automated machines.. Luke SS311

Chris DeGidio 05-11-2010 04:21 PM

Re: Oil Filter?

AC Delco sources their filters from two vendors, the Champion sourced ones are what you see in the parts stores and Wally World. The Fram HP ffilters are OK to use, just not the regular PH series.

Re: Oil Filter?

I was just gunna ask, what about the Mobil One and the K&N oil filters? They have to be better than the Fram? Jim

Peter Ash 05-12-2010 05:57 PM

Re: Oil Filter?

One should note there is a world of difference between the standard Fram "bypass type" filter(which most brandname filters are), and the Fram HP series of "full flow" filters (which most brandname filters are not)!

Re: Oil Filter?

Just use the K&N and you can not go wrong.
Built by racers for racers.
My 2 Cents

Re: Oil Filter?

System One ! Why have a race motor and not have a race filter it will pay for itself over time and it's a very good way to see what's going around inside the engine
