I had an issue once I added an exhaust system to my camaro only to find out I had the wrong plug for the merlin head. I know it's a long shot but also check the pill in the rev limiter.

I always shut off the fuel pump and clear the carb after each race. This makes sure I have no fuel left in the carb as I was having the same problem in my bracket car. Seemed to fix the problem

If car is sitting in a way that the carb is below the tank or cell with no shut on fuel line; the gas will bleed into the engine. ???

Do you leave the water in it or drain it out? If you leave water in radiator and motor you may have a head gasket weeping, after 1st run cylinder clear.

I once had a cracked coil that acted like that, when it cooled off at night it apparently took in moisture in the crack and when it warmed up it purged the moisture and ran fine.

The crack was so fine it was almost invisible. Changed the coil and the problem was solved.

Man it sure sounds like plugs.I know you changed them.Might try another set different brand. Also check for moisture/condensation inside the dist cap and the plug wire sockets.Do you keep the car outside?

Pat Collins ( TechWest Racing Services ) is right on regarding loose or oxidized connections to the coil / MSD ; been there done that . It may not be the problem in this case , but is good advice for any racer.
