Phoenix slicks

Anyone run these on a stickshift. I'm curious to find out. We will be running my Dads 67 camaro this year and the 28.5 x 9 x 15 looks like the only thing that will fit under it without cutting the quarters. I have always ran the Mickey Thompson's stiff sidewall ,but unfotunatley the size we need is not there. Lmk thanks.

Okay let me ask this has anyone bought a set of mickeys latley 29.5x9x15s my new ones measure one inch bigger than my old ones its almost like they are miss marked??

I know the set I bought a year ago would have fit on here ,but this new set is huge?

Tim,
Send BFXJason a PM over on the UMTR forum. Jason works for M/T and is a straight shooter. If something is different or got changed he would be the one to ask.

If you buy a Phoenix tire check the oil in your air compressor regularly and don't leave it in the trailer unattended over 3 days they will be flat.......love to race them......hate to own them.......who wants a tire that will not hold air

Rusty

Bias tires, yes they will leak, even M/T bias leaked, the Radial's never leaked.

Re: Phoenix slicks

Extra measures have been taken this past year to limit the air leakage when running Phoenix Tires tubeless with very good success. All of last year production and from now on will include this extra measure.

Thanks

Thats good to know as i was thinking of trying a set of those on my stock wheelwell 69. i guess we have to go with the hoosier as they seem to be the only one that offers a true 29" tire but even the 29x11.5 street pros i was runing started coming at 93-94 so i went to their 10x29 slick that was a hair shorter.

X2 on what Mike says...I bought 2 sets about 14 months ago and both sets,9x30x15 F9 compound, have over 85 passes on each set,car runs 10.30's at 130 mph and still have about 20 passes left, and have NEVER LEAKED.The OLD Phoenix slicks did not last as long and leaked, but not the NEW Phoenix slicks.I DON'T have clearance problems,68 camaro, with my stock rear wheel wells with the 9x30x15 tire as long as its not over 94 inches.http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r...3/IMG_1493.jpg

Are those mounted on 10" wheels? and if so what is your back spacing and if its not too much trouble could you measure the sidewall or section width of those on the 10" wheels.I can only find specs of section width on 8" wheels. Thanks in advance Eric

Re: Phoenix slicks

Yes they are mounted on 10 inch wheels, with 4.5 inch back space and the section width is 13 inches with 12 psi in slick.

I know I'm getting old,,but that white Camaro looks like a 67 to me, not a 68.
I use Phoenix slicks on my bracket car ( sshhh, don't say that word on here) and have had good success with them. My original pair, bought back in 03' did leak a lot, but I have'nt had that problem with later sets. I've got 2 brand new ones to put on for this season,, they've worked well for me. I'm using a 10.5x 29.5 F-9.

My Camaro has a 67 grille in it,could not afford a new one at the time and found a complete 67 grille for $40.Mine is a 68 other then grille,67 has a wind wing in the doors,68 does not.

Re: Phoenix slicks

$40.00 for a 67 grille setup,,,you did good. Yeah I know all about the wing windows on these cars,,,been around them since new,,,but going back and looking at the photo, that shadow is in just the right spot to make me think, hhhhmmmmm,,is that a wing window or not??? I'll say one thing the car sure works good,,,have fun with it.

Re: Phoenix slicks

I've had several people ask if the car was a 67 because of the grille and your right you can't really tell in the pic if it has wing windows. Thanks for the kind words.

Might be 67 fenders too!!! I know an old super stock racer that used to claim his 67 as a 68 sometimes and got away with it> Doug
