Stock Engine Builder Help, Please?

Hi all, I am an old bracket racer. I havn't been involved in racing for many years now and would like to get back into it with my son. I would really like to get set up in Stock eliminator. I used to run a big block chevelle in the brackets. I still like chevelles and would like to get another one. My question is can you all help me with some engine builders who are good with the 396 chevy and could build a very competitive engine? I don't care what part of the country they're in, I'd like to know who you think is the best. Thanks in advance.

Darrell Wikle, John Armstrong, or Arnold Green. Jeff Taylor is also good. On the west coast, there's always Gary McGlasson or the Sorenson brothers. Any of those guys can build a really fast 396, I doubt it matters that much who builds it. It's the whole car, it's the combination, the set up, and the tune up. You can have the most HP and still not have anywhere near the fastest car.

I forgot about that guy. Doesn't his name start with an "F" or something like that?

That Koppien guy is good too.

396 would be good choice. lots of good engine builders on here but the best thing about a 396 is you never have to pull the oil pan off well unless you get protested lol :D

Re: Stock Engine Builder Help, Please?

As a side note, the 69 Chevelle 427/425 is a good combination, and less likely to get hit with more HP soon. Also, the 70 Chevelle 454/450 is a pretty good combination as well. You do not have to build a 396 to run a big block in a Chevelle, unless you just want to.

Re: Stock Engine Builder Help, Please?

If you are going to run a 71 Chevelle, the 425 hp 454 is a good choice, actually better than the 70 450hp 454. Read the blueprint specs and you will see the error that makes this a better combination. I can point you in the right direction on this combo.

Re: Stock Engine Builder Help, Please?

K.Stubbs, I agree with your evaluation of `71 425/454 because of blueprint spec error. I have very nice set of heads (3984026), for this combo, would make a deal if someone needed them. Getting back to original thread, D.Wikle very good person to deal with and very knowledgeable. Tony Tosto #3050 A/S.
