Which tree is it?
In D1, they have been using the National Event tree at Division and Open races so far this year, anyone outta division noticing same? I didnt see anything re: posted anywhere & they have just been annoucing this on site during the races.

Are you sure Gary??? Not that I'm doubting you, but I don't recall seeing any announcements about this either (but IMO it makes sense)...

The way I understand it all divisions are using the professional pro tree. The pro's have been red lighting so NHRA added 3 hundreds to the mix. I was off by 3 hundreds at MG and beat myself up for it. If you have a heavy car you may as well give up in SG.
Since we have two organizations let make all sportsman pro tree's a 5 tenths, since everyone has a box. |
I don't think this is correct. The last I knew, NHRA ADDED about 0.03 to the tree, but that doesn't help red lights, it helps people that can't get a light. What used to be a .400 light is now a .370.
My understanding was the reason they did it was so that the fuel guys would look better on the tree. The negative side effect from that was more red lights from PS and PSB. In addition, it immediately made everyone in the .90 classes deadly, where before they may not have been able to get a light. Am I wrong here? Did I miss an announcement somewhere? When we were at the MASGA race the week after the Maple Grove Divisional, the Maple Grove Track Guys came up to Lucky and asked if we wanted a Pro Tree or Regular Tree. When he asked what the difference was they told him that the Pro Tree had 3 hundreths added to the pro tree to help the pro stock cars from red lighting and that was the tree they were using at the D-1 Open and Divisional. We opted for the regular tree and I think almost everyone redlighted in the 1st qualifing session.

The tree is now .370 NOT .400
When L.E.D. lights first came out pro stock & pro stock bike were all complaining about red lighting, after enough bitching NHRA decided to make the pro tree 370 instead of 400. In almost 20 years of racing I have had more FLUKE redlights since LED lights came out than the previous 15 to 16 years on the old style bulbs. MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION OF LED LIGHTS............WELL........ THEY FREAKIN SUCK FOR RACING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Test have been conducted recently and LED lights vary up to .017 every time they light up. Now I know there is some electrical guru that will see this and say im crazy or just getting old and need to quit. In case you forgot LED lights SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pt is there was no official announcement, just a voice over the P.A. stating .370 tree was being used. Got to Island Open and .370 was there also, just wanted to know if thats the way it is all the time.
Just got my car hitting the .400 tree with no delay, tough now at .370 to be competetive. gary |

For all those who do not know.....MG open race the tree/computer was set the same as national event because EVERYONE was having a problem hitting the tree (what ever it is). Just prior to first round the track had a computer malfunction and had to go to a back up computer (that was set for divisional tree) there was (NO JOKE) about 40 red lights. I compensated however my father did not, (he went red). The entire race was completed, the next day for the divisional the computer was repaired and we were back to national event tree, (you can only tell if you listened to everyone race)
They made no announcments and no statements to any racers that the tree's were different. Bad call From what I am hearing in D1 (all other divisions are supposevedly already doing this) will only be using the National Event Tree (slow) we will see this weekend at Atco. Thanks, Chris DePascale S/C 1153....Addicted Racing Jad153@aol.com |
So you just have too take some out of the box
|
Chris,
Your father went red because he was upset that he sold his Wally winning motorhome, and to add insult to injury, my flames look better then his. He was seeing red with anger and it made him go red. The good side to this is, he is cute when he is angry. Just dont tell Ron I said that! H.A.A.C. Racing |
I think they were doing the same thing at the Div 5 event in Brainerd. I usually carry .015 to .020 in SG, but I was running .000 to get teen lights.

I agree with Shane.
He should really just quit. Franklin DiBartolomeo |
Wow....Well, thanks for the info guys. I would have been scratching my head. I'll have to make sure when I go back to S/G regularly that I set the car on kill R.T. wise...
Very interesting... Jason Oldfield S/G & S/ST 1838 |
I agree if you have time to take out. Heavy cars are now not competive. Lets go back to a 5 tenths pro tree for sportsman. SC, SG and SST.

spend some money, then it 'll hit the tree!!

so only racer's with fat wallets should be allowed to run a Super catagory? How about the NHRA go back to usingf the .400 sportsman tree and use a faster tree for the pros if needed! I spent a lot of money to assure we could go .390 anywhere but now that'snot good enough and your answer is "spend more" No thanks, my sportsman experience has been enhanced enough. Somebody needs to come up with a delay that you can put negative numbers in. Even with one fo those "red" converters CBS endorses my SG car is .380 at best.
Maybe they should allow deep staging in SG. |
This is just the way is should be, like the good old days. You need to get under the car and change the converter and gear set, mess with the 4-link, make shock and front end travel adjustments. NHRA made a joke with the LED lights by making the old **** wagons go red. Now you have to work for it like it should be. If you don't like it stay home.

Hey SG596.
The tree was the same at Brainerd as it always is. Every year at that points race it is a minnimum of .20 slow. The rollout is almost 3 inches longer than any other D5 track we run at (except Great Bend this year, for whatever reason). Later, Jeremy Jeremy5123 |
Not doing anything about the tree is going to make S/G a roadster class, much like S/C being a dragster class. That will make people with older chassis cars and back half cars, add weight and go to SST (like I did). Problem there is that there alot of people that dont think chassis cars and heavy older roadsters should be in SST. Guess you cant make everyone happy!
H.A.A.C. Racing |
Funny you should say that. Just had a roadster for dinner yesterday.

Can't hit the .400 tree under the new setup? ......that's just like the old days for some of us.........just roll it in there like we used to do "back in the day" Makes it very interesting.....go too far and you go red......or maybe deep and your done.........you get good at it with a little practice and maybe an idle stop solinoid to bump your stage rpm way up[:-good-:]

Gotta agree with Rich and Asta on this, .... some of the guys racing Super classes now , never had to work to get a light, they got their .000 reaction times for free when the LED'S came about. ........ Can't get a light? work on your car!!! .... Asta's old 69 Camaro killed the tree way back ,when we didn't have big motors or killer converters. ...... Still cant get a light? roll it in , OR ARE YOU TOO PROUD? ....Some of you guys act like you are owed a good light, and deserve to be holding .030 in the box all the time.. ....... The holes in the 4-link brackets, and the knobs on the shocks are there for a reason, Use them!! ..... Tom
