Question for Dodge Dart Stocker Racers
Considering building a '69 340 Dart Stocker and want to know what size rear wheel/tire combo can fit in the little rear wheelwells. Need wheel width and backspace numbers and tire diameter and width numbers. Also what wheel lip mods done if any. Will be running Calvert rear suspension. I'm assuming offset hangers or shackles aren't legal.
All help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Much!!! Todd |
Re: Question for Dodge Dart Stocker Racers
Todd,
I have a Volare Stocker (F body not an A body) and I just put a new set of Hole Shot wheels on it replacing the Welds it had. The rear wheel back spacing I used was 4 7/8" which gives me 5/8" clearance to the Calvert springs. The Welds that I replaced were 4 1/2" backspacing. This is with no wheel lip massaging and an stock width 8 3/4 rear. I'm not sure but I if the back spacing on the A body and the F body are the same but I have been told they are. Jim |

Re: Question for Dodge Dart Stocker Racers
You can BARELY FIT 9.0 radial with some lip massage. Calvert makes a narrower rear monoleaf that make a big difference. Still no walk in the park!:)

I forgot to state that mine is a 10 inch wheel with a 30.0 X 9.0 Hoosier radial - Lightweight. Jim

Re: Question for Dodge Dart Stocker Racers
You are going to have to do your homework. I had to do everything to get a 9 x 30 radail under the car. As John said narrow leaf springs and a lot of massaging. I wouls also start with a 8.5 inch rim if you have not done a lot of work to the car.

Re: Question for Dodge Dart Stocker Racers
10" Rim with 4 and 7/8 or 5 back. 8.5 with 4.25 or 4.5 with small spacer if you must. Our Volare/Aspen combo has HUGE fenderwells by comparisions. Mopar makes a spring hanger that is .8" narrower that will bolt in A Body..... you might try that, it looks stock if you are good at rewelding spring hanger on housing but it probably is not legal but not very noticable.:D

Re: Question for Dodge Dart Stocker Racers
Thanks for all the input guys.
I have to do work to the quarters on the car, and I'm OK with massaging the lips as I'm sure I'll need to. Planning on stretching the leading edge of the opening which will help with tire diameter, width is the major issue . John: are the hangars you are referring to the ones which move the spring inboard .80 inch? I have those now I just have to figure out how to "sneak" the rear shackles in .80 too. |
Re: Question for Dodge Dart Stocker Racers
Make a housing the length you need, or you can get it made from Moser. Get exactly what you need, massage the wheel opening, and it will work. I personally like the 10 in rims better. Ours are 5" bs.

Re: Question for Dodge Dart Stocker Racers
Todd is this the green Dart that you've had for eons?

Re: Question for Dodge Dart Stocker Racers
That is right on hangers

Re: Question for Dodge Dart Stocker Racers
Keep in mind that Todd is asking about clearance on a 1969 Dart, not
a Duster/Volare/Aspen which all have similar wheel opens like a 67-69 Cuda would. The Dart has the least amount of tire clearance and does require wheel lip massaging and like Jeff said about narrowing the housing for clearance. |
