1955 Chevrolet Stocker style

I'm wanting to build a stocker style 55 Chevrolet. I like the thought and workman ship of the Alf Weibe suspension stuff for the front and rear. Does any one have any info on suspension stuff for this style car, or has anyone on here ever built one? What kind of parts did you use. Thanks for any information.

No answers because Stock is for 1960 and up. You can run SS though.

It will probably read "ANTHING GOES" because if all of the stockers have to be legal there would only be a hand full racing.....lol

Is it possible to see IHRA HP/factors somewhere?

I think your 415 HP Max Wedge (if thats the one you run) was reduced to 405 HP last year on the 63. The 64 is 410 HP. Not all of the NHRA factors cross over. Its been a long time ago but we used to use the old books like the 55 Chevy is 180 HP for the 4 barr in stock and pure stock (Jr. stock) because the 195 HP cam is a corvette only cam and its the NHRA S/S factor. It might require a call to Mike Baker or Danny Waters as he posts on this site to get all or some of them. I cant find it on the IHRA site either anymore. Sorry I cant help much.

So you look through at that long list and if you dont find what you look for all the way back to 2005 or something it's NHRA that counts.? If you are "robbing" NHRA.. why not do it fully out?

I'm not actually going to run it in stock. Im going to foot break it at my local track, just enjoy the stocker style cars and want to build this one like that.

Re: 1955 Chevrolet Stocker style

Since you're going to footbrake it in brackets,,you can go with any engine/trans combo you want of course. Since those cars were leaf springs from the factory, you might want to consider going the Cal-Tracs route. Their system of split leafs on the rear for different ride heights plus the bars should plant the tires. they've also recently come out with their own front shocks, and also carry Ranchos for the rear.
I'd give them a call and tell them what you want to do,and they'll steer you the right direction.
Good luck with your project,,I used to play around with a small block 4speed Bel-Air myself, and if I still had it today I'd put the Cal-Trac stuff on it. Their add is in the National Dragster.
Take care,,,,Danny Durham
