MY CORVETTE VIDEOS casting number 3823481

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have an alluminum snowflake GM intake with the casting number 3823481 and a birthdate of 5-18-62. I have been told by several people that this intake is originally for 1961-1967 Corvette small blocks. I have looked on all of the casting number reference links and then some, but I still can't find this number anywhere.

Is this right or is it wrong info? Any information will be helpful.

Re: Small block intake identification

Bub, thanks for the info. I'll check the casting number again tomorrow at the shop to make sure i didn't make a mistake. The thing about this manifold that caught my eye was the "factory cast" bosses in two of the intake runners on each side that are drilled and taped with a 1/8th pipe tap, nothing like i've seen before and no sign's of any modification (welding) and i've been playing this game for 50 years, but eye sight and memory aren't what they use to be.

Thanks again for the input.......

Re: Small block intake identification

Norman............I bought one of those manifolds quite a few years ago at the Carlisle swap meet. Mine
has small 283 size throttle bores. I showed it to Div 1 Tech Director Greg Xakellis and he had never seen one like that. I showed it to Bill Jenkins who said it wasn't experimental because it didn't have an X in the casting number. He thought it was interesting but couldn't identify it. One person thought it might be a factory dyno manifold because of the 4 ports on the intake runners. My thought was that it could be tied in to the aluminum heads that Chevy tried to use that didn't work in aprox 1960 and were replaced by the 461X heads. It's a neat manifold and I hope someone out there can shed some light on this.

Re: Small block intake identification

It could be a marine manifold. I worked on a boat around 1970 that had a 327 inboard with an aluminum manifold and an AFB carb. I remember there being extra vacuum fittings on the manifold. It was not significant enough for me to look at the casting number at the time, so I cannot verify it. I remember the engine also had solid lifters and a dual point distributor because I did a "tune-up" which included new plugs, points and valve adjustment. I just thought it was a weirdo marine combination.

No problem. I just did a search on that #, and started hitting the web sites. Only took about 5 minutes to find that one. Good luck with it.
