Cool race car names!
We have a thread for witty slogans on race cars, now how about cool race cars names?! Back in the day, every car had a name, and they all meant something...and sometimes they even took a little thought!
You had the "Paddy Wagon", "Red Alert", "Herbie's Hugger", countless cars Novas used "Novacaine"...someone referenced "Makin' Bacon" in another thread! Let's hear 'em...!! |

Re: Cool race car names!
For what it's worth, I thought "Locomotion" would be cool for my car. I always liked the song, first by Little Eva in '62, Grand Funk RR in '74 and Kylie Minogue in the '80's. One definition I found for the word was "power of movement". Rather appropriate for a race car. So my 2 bracket Challengers and now my IHRA Dart Sport have carried the name.
http://www.dragracecentral.com/stori...ockingham9.jpg I didn't know Little Eva lived in Kinston, NC until she passed away just before the last time I raced there in 2003. Also had a dad bring his little girl over in the pits to see tha car at an IHRA national event in Stanton, MI because "Locomotion" was her favorite song in dance class! I won that weekend. But I'll never know if they saw it because it poured rain shortly after the last cars went down and I never saw them again. It wasn't until quite a while after I started using the name that I found out Bob Reed use to have the name on his cars also. A couple of other cars that come to mind are "Time Machine" and the late ET racer Billy Crews from Gainesville had "Cruz Control" on his cars. When I fist saw that as a rookie, I wondered if he was cheating using cruise control! lol |

Re: Cool race car names!
My first attempt at a Stocker is called "Pipe Dream" Back when I was just getting into racing the ex-wife, decided enough was enough and told me "get this racing thing out of your system, you will never race at those Divisional and National events, so move on to something important, your racing is nothing but a pipe dream ! " Well, many years later, I finally finish the stocker with the pushing of my new wife of almost 10 years now, I tell her the story. She yells " That's it, that's what we will name it, PIPE DREAM" We were looking at pictures in the dragster deciding where to put the name, most of the pictures are of the front of the car. We decided put it on the front fender instead of the door or quarter panel, so if and when it shows up in print, the ex will see it.

I agree Mike Boyles 57 is cool, one of my earliest racing memories. The Asphalt Gambler was also a great name.First used by Robert Bowman and later Ricky James. The Daydreamer Corvette was also a favorite of mine. I am addicted to racing today because of watching these stick cars run. I miss Modified!!! Hope to see Charlie Brown in the winners circle soon!!!
