'67 Camaro E/SA redo
A friend and I picked this car up a while back and we are working on it this winter with many upgrades in store. Car came to us with a Powerglide and numerous small problems...we are whittling them down one at a time.
As of this evening these are the completed items: Complete re-wire of the ignition system - New MSD distributor and coil - Altered bracketry for the Moroso water pump - New 5.14 Richmond gear - Caltrac's for the rear with Caltrac split leaf springs - New Moroso front springs - New shocks on all corners - Aerospace disc brakes front and rear and light weight master cylinder - Improved gauge package - New Champion wheels all around - (I splurged a bit here:p) Just about all problem areas have been addressed save one...Arnett is building us a Metric 200 atm and a ATI convertor will be added as well when it's ready. Come spring we will find out how good a motor we have in the car...can't think of anything else that would hold us back. The car is already very close to the class minimum weight for a 286/350 in E/SA. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psf781697c.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps7f7ae04a.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps843350ef.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps0d1832cc.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psff4aae1c.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps3cdd7e94.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps0cea11cf.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps61514796.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps701ada52.jpg |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Looking good.
Where did you purchase the wheels from? What size are the rears and backspace? Clark |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
I ordered the wheels from Champion... http://www.cwibeadlock.com/NBL%20Speed%20Series.htm
Rears are 15x10 w/5.0 backspace. Someone in the past had welded the spring perches in the wrong positions shifting everything toward the driver's side...I will have to run a 1/4" wheel spacer behind the passenger side wheel to clear the lower shock mount. We will run it this way this season and probably replace the housing next fall. Both my partner and I were so impressed with the wheels he plans on putting a set on his '66 Nova. What I really like is how Champion offers it's wheels in 1/4" increments for backspacing. |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
LOVE this car!!!!

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Nice work. Love the new wheels they look awesome.

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Nice looking car, job well done!
How quick was the car when you bought it? |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Thanks guys - If we can make it run decently this spring I will treat it to a new paint job/interior come fall. The car was only able to muster a 7.39 with F weight when we got it...we will see what it can do with the new parts come spring.

Looks Really Good! Love seeing another WHITE race car!

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Standby for a complete interior change. The next pictures posted will show a Black/Gold interior with re-located gauges. We are also going to go ahead and swap the current 12-bolt housing for a Mosier housing to get everything centered as it should be.

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Got the Gold paint in this afternoon...I'll give it till Sunday to dry and begin putting everything back together. Not shown is a new Gold headliner lying on top of the roof.

Weary of digging my nails in the window channel everytime I need to close the door...looks like there is plenty of room with the side bars. |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Looks nice, Rich. The gold interiors in early Camaros and Chevelles look classy. I like the gold Moroso tach bracket....been looking everywhere trying to find one for my Nova stocker. -Al

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
You can have that bracket Al for the price of shipping if you want it.

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Got it Al..sent you one back.
Got the Mosier housing in the car today...forgot and left the camera at home so no pic's tonight. Everything is now perfectly centered, the 5" backspace wheels worked great with no interference and the back of the car is sitting pretty. If the headliner guy doesnt show this week I suppose we will have one more project to tackle ourselves. |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Headliner went in this evening...looks great!
http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psc969f293.jpg New Mosier housing was a sorely needed addition. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psc038d09e.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psaae818d8.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps6bf59775.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps25fccc2b.jpg Header tethers installed...thanks Jok @ http://www.collector-cable.com/ http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psc0f00e4d.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psbf3e7547.jpg I'll get some shots when I finish the seats/door panels/dash. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps8536e0e7.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psa481ba50.jpg |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Looks great!
Nice looking shop.....the tongue and groove ceilings are 'way slick. -Al |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Began putting the dash/interior back together today...starting to look like a car again.
Made a minor change to the shock mounting point and replaced the well worn u-bolts. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps5e5fa90a.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps14449864.jpg How do you like the new gauge placement? No more big honkin tach in the windshield. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...psbe8fac47.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps76112c41.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps3550b1fb.jpg My camera mysteriously deleted a shot of the door panel...anyway, door armrests are installed. Of course I still have some tidying to do with wiring before the seats go back in. Matter of fact I may hold off on the seats until we get the new transmission installed in case I have to do some shifter work. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps9fa0aedb.jpg |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Lookin good! Makes me want to go out and work on my Bird! :)
|
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
I'll be damned...everything actually works. I was too tired to mess with the seats this evening...will put them back in New Years day.

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Finally off the rack and out in the sunshine. All we need now is the new transmission/convertor.

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
I love workin' on these carbs, and learning what makes them tick. I set mine up to about 3/4:1 on the secondaries...im running a '68 Buick carb, with '70 main body... picked up quite a bit, with those mods...i went with a Chevy throttle shaft, mainly for ease of throttle hookup. Why am i telling you this? hehe:) It aint pretty, but its a mean footbrake carb...

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Looking good Brent! I'll have to wait around eight weeks to find out how mine acts. Thought it would be unique running a 1967 model on the car.
|
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Thanks! I thought it cool to run a '68(even if it was a Buick) carb , but found out that it couldnt feed my 462, ran out of fuel at the top of each gear. So , i figured it wouldnt feed my 400 either, since i will be turning a few more rpms. I used the 462 as my test dummy, and learned quite a bit from that. Im very anxious to get the 400 running. Gettin closer everyday. Time and $...hehe
WHat carb is on the car, now? |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
It's a later model that came with the car...appears to be a quality piece. I know it has 68 primary jets in it...just put 67's in the '67 hehe.
http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps34e35b91.jpg |
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
looks like a good one...is that a '207' carb? I only running '65s in my current carb, how you guys get away with 68's? Im not running metering rods in front...
|
Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
Carb isnt in front of me Brent and I can't recall the number. I know someone commented before it was jetted like a SuperStocker. No primary needles in these either. I put CE secondary rods in the '67 to begin with. The car was originally running with 40 degrees timing...I have since backed it down to 36 degrees with the new distributor.

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
I have always had the best luck with DA .044 tip secondaries on K hanger... anytime that ive tried to richen it up a tad, i see loss in 60ft( about .01 or so) and about .02+ in the 1/4 mile... with any engine the carb has been on. I went from 11.04/1.48/120 to 10.81/1.440/122.33 with just those mods i mentioned earlier... in the same basic conditions...and being a Pontiac, big cube, i run timing locked at 33-34* ... the 400 may take a few more degrees, not sure yet....

Re: '67 Camaro E/SA redo
