Rain postpones 58th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals one week

Persistent rains have forced NHRA officials to postpone the 58th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Auto-Plus at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis to Sept. 8-9.

“The persistent weather has affected the racing surface and we have chosen to make the tough decision to postpone the race until next weekend,” said Graham Light, NHRA senior vice president racing operations. “We are planning to run the remainder of the event next weekend on Saturday and Sunday."

NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing categories — Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle —qualifying will reopen with two sessions on Saturday, Sept. 8, with eliminations will be on Sunday, Sept. 9. The Funny Car NHRA Traxxas Nitro Shootout, the NHRA $100,000 bonus race within a race, will be run on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing series and the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by Pro Care RX will also continue qualifying on Saturday, Sept. 8, with the rest of sportsman eliminations scheduled for Saturday.

Okay, don't everyone unload on me but I would like to know why you would leave the US Nationals, if you are still in the race on Sunday night, and the race has not been called off. You have spent your money, used vacation, made it into the race, still listed as being in the race for Monday Morning and you are gone home before it is officially called?

This is one time that I am glad we got beat 1st round and have been home and just watching this fiasco on the internet. I really feel for the super stock people who haven't even gotten in 1 round yet. I had an email from Paula Cotten saying she and Mike have headed for Earlville where they are finishing up the Topeka points race on Thursday. The Earlville race then starts on Friday. It is right at 400 miles in between. I don't know how many will make the trip back to Indy, but will just stay in Earlville. Probably depends on the forecast. Well good luck to all wherever you are!!

This also coincides with the Division 1 points meet at Atco. Hard decisions to be made.

Chris, with the advent of technology and the overwhelming information we received from all the weather station, we could see that the influx of rain from Tropical storm Isaac was going to dump between 5`` to 10 `` this was a no brainer. I feel for all those people who have all lost their holidays but we can`t control the weather, just bad luck. The weather was fantastic Wed. to Saturday am, I have to say that NHRA did a great job moving the show along considering all the bad news coming their way with the remnants of Isaac, we all knew that there was going to be two days if not more of rain.CR

Couldn't remember the year.
We had about six inches of water all the way around the coach and trailer for about three days.
Beautiful weather the next weekend though.

Looks like the ones that left on sun were the smart ones, the sportsmen know that the first out will be the pros so they will sit all day as far as vacation time they used it all last week how much more would a working man have left to stay another day?

In 1980 it rained out. They tried to do it on Tuesday. No go. They got most of it in on Wednesday. Finished Stock, and I believe Superstock on Thursday.
There were 2 people in the stands that Thursday. Diamond P used the standby cameramen on Thurday. They didn't have a clue about handicap racing.

YEAH. I wondered about all those trailers parked near that gulch in the sportsman pits. Just hope everyone made it out as painlessly as possible. With the ground as it is, the excess water is going to seek the lowest possible point.

Really feel for the guys that won't be able to return.

S/S is more like a Division 3 points meet with a so-so car count and a really good potential payout. Less than 15 cars from other divisions. How do the grandstands look?
