All of the safety equipment we use only makes our racing safer not 100% without risk. Stock seats are nothing but steel, foam, and upholstery. If you have not tried to make your stock seat stronger or safer, then you have no need for a replacement custom lightweight aluminum carbon fiber racing seat.

Yeah, reminds me of fuel check, an issue NHRA brought on themselves. Used to be "pump gas" until they let H&H in. From then on it was "anything that passes our fuel check" is legal.

A well known Pro Stock racer at a D2 race once asked me to inquire about checking Pro Stock gas. The "man in charge" (I won't mention names) told me "We have no way to check for what they are doing." In other words, it passed our tests so (today) it's legal.

No Jeff, I didn't say that.

But to clarify, I will paraphrase what I previously said: The new cars have better seats, more appropriate to racing than the older cars.

As a result, they are probably safer than the older cars seats. So for someone to say that there is a greater or increasing safety greater risk with the seats in the newer faster cars, is not entirely accurate.

I do agree though, that as long as it isn't just an excuse to provide a weight advantage, older cars should be allowed to have newer safer seats.

All you safety conscious racers would be happy with a aftermarket safer seat that is as heavy as the stock seat it is replacing. YEAH RIGHT!!!!!

All this BS is ONLY about wanting lighter weight seats in Stock.

I think Jason hit the nail on the head. Every time someone wants to slip something into stock or super stock that wasn't legal before, they always use the 'greater safety' rationale.

If you aren't aware what A-100 seats are, they are seats from the A-100 vans produced in the mid 1960's and were used in the SS MOPAR package cars of the 1960's. Like the SS Hemi Dart / Barracuda.
That's great the new DP package cars come with Viper seats. But, I'd bet they would sell just as many DP package cars if they came with old A-100 seats. And everybody would still race them that way if they had too.

And for the record, I don't have a problem with running OEM type seats in a Stocker. Like Viper seats in a 1970 Challenger or 2012 GT-500 seats in a 1967 Mustang. Or I guess I wouldn't have a problem with those seats in an AMX or Camaro. What I fear is that once the rule says "aftermarket seats allowed in Stock class", then the door is open to Kirky seats or even Pep Boy specials that look best in a modified Ricer with Lambo doors.
