Picked the car up from the frame shop yesterday. Ron Cunningham did a very good job on getting the pink dip chip fixed. Working on the engine now, I had to put all new stuff in the front end, checked spindles for bend and cracks. Fixed the oil pan, pickup and trans pan. Once I finish engine and install everything it will be off to Gary Jennings to adjust front end and scale car. I hope we will have time to get the paint fixed before the Sports.

Lunch is over I got to go back to work!

The "Sports?". Thought you might run the Reynolds Division 2 race before heading out on Western Swing II. In any case sorry you couldn't make St Louis and hope the balance of your repairs go well.

We wanted to make all three sports this year, looks like we will settle for two out of three!

I don't want to keep picking at a sore spot, but I'm curious about one of the craziest wheelies I've ever seen since the altered wheelbase days. Most of the competitors at the Byron wheelie show don't get that radical.

Did you replace the front end parts due to damage or just to be on the safe side? I was wondering how much abuse the stock stuff would take. I would think the lower control arms are pretty strong but that the tie rods might not be.

Hope it's fixed soon.

I had a similar wheel stand one year at the gatornationals. I took the wheelie bars off to save some weight. Went sky high and dragged the back valance on the ground. it unloaded the back tires when they came off of the ground and the car started toward the guardrail and I had to lift. I had to replace the lower A arms all of the ball joints and bushings. It knocked the headlights out of the car and tore the radiator from its mounts. smashed the oil pan and the headers. It also chipped the paint along the quarter panel similar to Larry's car. The guy which was a friend of mine redlighted in the other lane so I won that round. I managed to find the parts I needed at a local bone yard and NAPA and we put the car back together for the next round the next day. I learned my lesson on the wheelie bar thing and have never taken them off again.

The car is almost done. We plan on going to the door slammers to check out the car before we head out west.

I realized today what was worse than no national championship..... a hollow one!

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

220+ hours, three weeks of my life, new suspension parts, Ron Cunningham frame shop, Gary Jennings racecars, repaired oil pan repaired trans pan, two bent Bogart wheels, bent doors, bent fenders, new grill parts, and touch up paint applied daily. What a dummy. Oh I almost forgot and the reinstallation of my wheelie bars. Now if the wheelie bars are a problem I will just raise them out of the way.

I was just finishing up so I could go the local track and check out all of the work that had been done and then it started to rain. Maybe we can find a place to test this weekend before we head west.

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

Went to local track, Beacon Dragway, the car hooked hard and went straight they have stopped using VP traction compound and switched to VHT aka PJ1. The track is a real pleasure to race at, good food with a place to sit in A/C comfort and enjoy your meal. Very clean restrooms that are heated and have A/C.

We hope to have a combo race next year.

Hats off to Dr. Grow and Keith Murt for just a top notch place to race. If your close and need a place to race or just traveling through stop and check it out, as Jerry Bennett would say "I believe you'll like it".

A very special thanks to all the people that help me take my horseshoe of a car and get it fix so I can go racing again.

Larry
My "Hats off" to you. This late in the year most people would have taken the Cuda home and fixed it over the winter. But I guess the draw to head west was too much.
Great effort and I look forward to the great reporting on the remaining Autumn Leaf Tour.

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

It was fun at Beacon last night. Chris even got in the action and raced Keisha's Dodge Magnum in Street Trophy. Chris and Larry were both still in after the 2nd round and then the rains came!! I am afraid Chris might have gotten the racing bug again! His little girl Aubrey just turned 8, so we might even be seeing Jr. Dragsters in our future!!

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

Well we are back on the road again and "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour. After losing 3 weeks, and missing Columbus, St. Louis, and Noble we are ready to race again. We also had a couple of days worth of work to do on the motorhome, too, before we hit the road, so we didn't have time to get to Las Vegas for the Sportsnationals. So we went south back to Division 2 to Reynolds, GA. for their divisional race. We got here this afternoon and the grounds look wonderful. There are already lots of rigs here and parked. We just drove on in and they told us to go up and pay tomorrow! Really nice! We haven't been here but twice before and the last time we had the Private Lee here, so that was at least 9 or so years ago! We plan to do some testing tomorrow and then the race begins on Friday. The weather is supposed to be beautiful all weekend. About 80 during the day and 50s at night!

The rest of our tour (if all goes well) includes going from here to Vegas, with a couple of days at Mike and Paula's in AZ. Then on to Vegas for the national and divisional and then to Pomona.

More tomorrow--it's been a long day!

Thanks everyone for the good wishes!

It is a crisp, cool day here in Reynolds! It is 61 now at 10 am. Today forecast shows 82 high, Friday 83, Sat 84, Sun 85 with 50s at night. And 0% chance of rain! I just hope the weather guys get it right this time!

Test and tune is this afternoon, so we are getting ready to try things out!

More later!

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

A little disappointing for test and tune. Lost a tenth in 60' over the local track from last weekend. I think they are using Lane Choice and lots of people are not hooking. Where is Redman??? They could use you down here!!!

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

You all won't have to worry about big wheel stands with VP traction compound. Put plenty of weight in the back and run B.

Thanks for the pics Patsy, Nickajack lake is on my bucket list. Before I die I want to have a bass boat with fishing poles and a large cooler of beer. I have passed over that lake several times on my way to Gainsville and Atlanta. Beautiful.

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

It is another clear, cool day here in Reynolds! It is 58 now, going up to 83 this afternoon. Time trials start at 10 this morning with super street, then stock, super comp, super stock, and super gas. They also run index cars here, too. After being very frustrated yesterday with test and tune and not being able to hook, we finally got 1 good run. So much for testing anything new! Just had to keep adjusting to just get down the track. Hopefully the track will be better today!

Lots of people seen here yesterday: Gary and Jerry Emmons, Larry Stewart, Jr., Rusty Johnson, Jimmy Parker, Merrill Schrimsher, Drew Skillman and lots of others from in-division. I think Steven Dziorny is supposed to be coming down also with Mom Jennifer!

I had to go over and try out an ice cream cone from the Strawberry Patch at the end of the track. Soft serve strawberry or peach ice cream! And boy was it good. Might just have to have another this afternoon!

Oh, the track is sponsoring a barbq dinner tonight for all the racers! Thank you Silver Dollar! That is really nice of them to do that!

More later!

Good luck and have a good time. I'll say it again, if you happen to see Michelle Furr tell her I said hi. She runs S/C and S/st. Nice people.

40 stockers made the first pass. Gary Emmons put it on the bumper. Traction was better today. #1 John Duzac! Heather Lamar lost a collector. Tethers???

We should be running again shortly.

More later.

Heather should probably fire her mechanic! Bet he's going to get that a lot this weekend...thought the car count would have been higher but guess the Memphis race was one factor, just wish they had made the decision to cancel the Dutch a little sooner but who knows, you may have some D1 folks barreling down I-81 headed your way. Hope so, Ed and Dorothy have a great little track.

Larry Hill 10-11-2013 12:59 PM

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

43 cars went down for Stock's 2nd run. They are running a shoot-out this afternoon based on top 8 reaction times of the cars entered. Then you will run off your index. If faster than .75 under you get cic next round.

Larry Hill 10-11-2013 03:15 PM

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

Larry was #2 qualifier for the stock shoot-out based on reaction time. He won 1st round, now has Jeff Adkinson 2nd round. Should be heads up, but I think Larry may have got cic .04 for going .79 under. Craig Marshall will run Kaitlyn Adkinson.

butch8908 10-11-2013 04:34 PM

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

Congradulations to Kenneth Stott on his #1 qualifier for Stock. Must be in the genes from his Granddaddy (Larry) and his Aunt Emily plus maybe some coaching from Uncle Mike.

Go get'em Kenneth. Keep him tuned Larry.

Butch

Larry Hill 10-11-2013 04:44 PM

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

After our cic we had to run Jeff Adkinson and beat him!! Kaitlyn red-lighted to Craig Marshall, so we get to run Craig. We lost another .24 on index, so this will be a tough one!

Larry Hill 10-11-2013 05:41 PM

Re: "Live" from our Autumn Leaf Tour 2013

Well Craig beat us! After our cic, we had to run off a 11.01 and he still had all his index, so he ran off 11.70. He beat Larry there by .12 off the gas.

Larry and Patsy, do you or do know of anyone that would have room to bring a electric golf cart to Vegas one way? My father bought mine and will pick it up there at the nationals. I don't have room for a RC car.... :)

Mrs. Patsy,

Do you have any idea why 1320go isn't working? Are they working on getting in fixed?

Cooter,

If you will click on 1320's "Contact" and then info@1320go.com, send an email with your questions. Even though it says for week days only, I have received quick responses to my questions on weekends.

Give it a try.
