I love this build. It really shows that, contrary to popular opinion, you can build a competetive low buck stocker.

Great job Billy!!

Billy,
What's the difference between this car and the Grand Prix you ran in T/SA in the past ?

I was on the line at Cecil for I believe the third rd. Billy ran Paul Barham's Copo that would of been a great photo $125.000 vs $1000 and Billy got it. cool

Re: Under the index for under a grand!

I had a pretty nice time this weekend. I got to catch up with some dear, old friends and I got to bust everybody elses biscuits. Ya just know you're going to have a good day when you stop and put $82 worth of gas in the old truck and the girl at the register tells you that you qualify for a FREE $1.59 COFFEE! For you Hemi, CJ and COPO guys, coffee is what your lattes, frappes and espressos start out as. Kinda like how crude oil winds up as synthetic race fuel, but back to the subject.
After getting to the track, i got unloaded and went to Tech and my first Q run. The first Tech(no names mentioned) guy checks out the car, the second Tech guy comes over, the third Tech guy rides up on a cart, they talk, the second Tech guy comes back over and, shuffling his feet says,"Billy, one of the COPO guys complained about the holes in your car. He said that your car is destroying the integrity of the sport". They let me make my first Q and after the run, young Gary Simpers and I went about getting the car some "integrity". Ya know, I didn't see Jack all day. Oh well, being a roving reporter probably makes for a busy day.
On a lighter note, I think that the 1K car is now the "Worlds Fastest 2V 301 Pontiac"! That and $82 worth of gas will get you a free cup of coffee but I'll take whatever I can get.
I still am having carb problems but I'm getting it better. It's now to the point where it has a ".02 something light and goes fairly fast" stumble and a ".08 light and a tenth slower" stumble. At least now if I hit the tree in the same place I've got a 50% chance of being right. But one way or the other, it's consistent!
I'll try and get some pics and post the rest of my weekend adventures later.

I'm guessing that some of those guys are just jealous. Patina is in right now.
Ken was way overdue to win one of these things and it hurts a little less when you lose to the winner.

Isn't it ironic that you get a compliment from one of the most respected racers out there, and oh by the way owns and races a COPO!!! :D

Hey guys, I know that I've been pretty rough on the new car guys on this and other threads but, for the most part it's all been tongue-in-cheek kidding(and maybe a little butt busting).
The fact is that we need new cars as well as we need the old stuff if we're going to stay healthy as an Eliminator and I believe that Stock is probably the healthiest Eliminator in the NHRA. If anything, the new car guys should be busting us low class, no class and "Dime Rocket" types for not holding up our end. By my count, there were only 5 L/S and under cars in competition at Cecil County. That's pretty bad when you figure that there were 5 COPO Camaros there. C'mon guys, let's get cracking and get some more of those cheap, ugly, slow cars out there!

You watch... may be as many as 40 cars in the ET Enterprises/Buckeye S/SS Junior Stock Shootout at the Class Nationals next spring! They're out there... they just don't all show up at the same time and place.

Billy you will HAVE to agree that I hold up my end in Super Stock. At least as far as "cheap and ugly" goes, slow yes but not compared to the index..

Billy is right we need the new cars out there and on that note NHRA should allow more specs on the V6 Camaro, Mustang & Challengers they're all making over 300 horses plus, I've seen a couple of insurance write-off that would be perfect candidates for new affordable Stockers . Congratulation Billy but you really didn't need the pat on the back from us, just doing it is enough for you I'm sure. Claude Ruel

Billy,

Trying to do my part. Haven't had my slow car out at all this year. I ripped the power steering box off it and took the AC compressor, condensor and lines off it last weekend. Ron Seibenek is bringing me one of his headers to the Nationals next week. My car can run EF/SA in IHRA with a 15.90 index. Which with the next few changes, we might sniff it, maybe get within 3-4/10's. I can get into D/FS for NHRA, that 15.60 will be tough to do with an automatic car.

I am in the slow and ugly categorey.

A pic of the "integrity" that Gary Simpers Jr. and I were able to give the 1K car to get thru tech and a pic of the Q timeslip.

A little lighter color 200 MPH tape like the old days and you would not even notice it at 90 MPH ;)

What tape? love the look, Billy can I infringe on your patent rights and copy it. Maybe next week at Indy this will be the new rage. You're always on the edge when it comes to new technologies. Claude Ruel

It was great meeting the legendary Billy Saturday I should say.
1K sending home 100k was awesome.
I got to post some pics from the event.
Integrity was priceless.
Just thought of the bad news bears final scene when the bear tells the yankees what to do w that trophy, lololol.

Chris O'Keefe.

Billy knew exactly who I was when I walked up to shake his hand, really.

Just FYI, I think that a 4V 301 could put a beating on the I/PS index.

Just returned home from Indy and one of the hi-lites of the race was meeting Billy!! Good luck with the 301 4v . One thing I just remembered to look for if it is in fact an original 301 carb is the secondary feed tubes have holes drilled in the underside for air bleeds, which really lean it out. You probably already knew this but I just wanted to try and help. P.S Didn't expect Billy to be so handsome! lol. Bob Michael.

Boy I have known Billy for 40 years and never heard anyone call him that, must be that new hat Jack said he put on for the trip. Also the 301 in Don Himes car was built and flogged by Billy with a 4V and it will and can run under the Q index by 1 second, he is trying to make that 2V work in the Gran Prix.
