Re: Class win

Why would anyone expect to see all the classes fill up with the current structure we have?
A, The entry fees alone, are way more than the average class payout.

B, You don't have to win a class to get in the eliminator.

You heard Herbie . He's there for eliminations. I then asked him if he would want to see class winners only , on Sunday. So far ,we haven't heard his answer ,yet he is one who wants to eliminate class single wins.

NHRA brought this all on themselves anyway, with their superb long term strategy.

Re: Class win

Hey Mark could go for that class winners only in the eliminator. Run class at all national events. This would make it easier for NHRA. Send home those slug, cry baby, qualifiers.
Make it a man's sport again.
And while were at it lets go to the quickest 16 cars only, to run the eliminator. This will make the guys that can't take off from work all those days happy. You can go to 2 day races.

This rant makes about as much sense as a few of the other posts.

NHRA should make some more new rules...

If you don't actually race anyone at a race where class is contested you don't get anything but maybe a decal...

You MUST race someone and win to be eligible for a Trophy and any contingencies.

You also must teardown and pass to collect your trophy and contingency

Sound familiar? Yea because that is how it used to be and was meant to be.

All the whinning that goes on here by just a few people is sickening.

The bottom feeders do the most bitching and whinning.

There is no way the old days and ways are going to return so NHRA should wise up and dump the "make believe class eliminations" at various events.

Put the time and money into places that will do the sport some good and make a better show. Heads up runs are fine but not if the cars are as slow as dumptrucks......No one wants to see this crap out on the racetrack......Some bitch about T-Stop cars ...Some bitch about T/S and T/D and just about any other class that they don;t run....What a bunch of whinning old farts..........

Maybe some of you should retire to the old folks home and sit and tell your stories about the Glory days........ Bunch of F.O.G.s........

And don't tell me to STFU .....I've paid my dues since 1966 and trailered plenty of cars to the races.....including Stockers....

Rich,so if I pay NHRA $280 and I'm the only T car I get no wally,no contingency $$ and if I'm not among the quick 128/64/32 then I put the car back in the box and go home.
Now that's a real solid business strategy.
I guess we'll be seeing the dawn of T/S-/D at all national events if this comes to pass.
S/SS will become a rich mans sport like yachting and polo.

Re: Class win

No Ed...I didn't say anything like what you responded.........I simply said awarding people money and a trophy for making a by run makes NO sense. I didn't say a word about what car gets to run eliminations.

The Old days was always class winners and low qualifiers.....and the field was nowhere near the number of cars as today. I don't know what would make a good formula fro seeding cars into eliminations. The present system is why so many show up. ALL run or all run up to 128 cars at most events....

Having so many classes has diluted the categorie and the bye runs for class awards is rediculous.....Bitching that you paid $280 to race an event is not relavent to this....It already is a rich mans sport or didn't you notice! Thats why I'm not there......The return on investment has become ludicrously poor.....and it was never great to begin with!

I entered a number of national events in my old days in Jr. Stock and Stock and Super Stock......I never got a single chance to run a National event eliminator for various reasons in those old days........I paid my money, took my chances and realized I was usually not fast enough and in over my head and went home.....I moved into categories I could win at........and did.....

Why should I be penalized if no one else is entered in my class?
You also must tear down and pass to collect your trophy and contingency
Not the racers fault,NHRA is too lazy to do their job.
Put the time and money into places that will do the sport some good and make a better show. Heads up runs are fine but not if the cars are as slow as dump trucks
Would that mean lower classed cars or cars not that far under their index?
No one wants to see this crap out on the racetrack......
Rich,a lot of people feel that way about the Super categories.
If you don't actually race anyone at a race where class is contested you don't get anything but maybe a decal...
I payed my entry,I make class call,I ran quicker than the minimum requirement.I should get my hardware and piddling contingency payout.Period.
I've paid my dues since 1966 and trailered plenty of cars to the races.....including Stockers
I would think you would have some compassion for us old goats.
Have a Happy New Year Rich.

[QUOTE=Dick Butler;159312]It would bring back fans to watch CLASS Stk and SS again also because by combining all the classes down to many fewer there would ALWAYS be enough cars entered to make some rounds of class.
Dick, I think you are hallucinating, at all the national events I`ve been to, the vast majority of "fans" leave the stands after the Nitro cars run, they don`t even bother to stick around for the ultimate single class heads up "doors & gas" class there is, Pro Stock. "too slow, not noisy enough, no header flames", the average spectator would rather wander around the Pro pits, getting John Forces autograph, and watch the Pro crews change pistons and clutches, and best of all, jump when the idling nitro engines get blipped, and suck in nitro fumes. If Joe Average won`t stick around to watch Greg Anderson & Mike Edwards race, why would you think that a pair of 10 or 11 second G/SA Camaros would grab their attention. Hell, they don`t even watch the Alcohol dragsters & F/C`s. As for too many classes, Comp has twice as many classes, with much smaller car counts, and Comp separates sticks & auto`s.

Ed I do have compassion for US old goats.....include me in there. I am one of them for sure. I just get tired of reading some of what gets said on here at times.

I will leave you guys alone to fight amongst yourselves......

Happy New Year.....

Yet people watch Pinks All Out, which clearly demonstrates that the problem is with marketing and presentation.

I remember the stands staying full even through the .90 classes at a given national event. Why? Proper presentation.

Class win

Maybe the stock and superstock racers should jump out of their cars on the starting line and scream at each other and stomp around like they do on pinks with a bald headed doofus as the referee?
Pinks makes drag racers look like a bunch of retards, fits right in with the video games these young people are addicted to!
I won't watch it!

Re: Class win

^^^^^^^^ Very true, Bill , but as Michael was saying, a great , knowledgeable announcer can make a big difference.

Some of you may remember Leo Samuel at the Patch ,and Div I .

He knew everything about everybody and let you know it . Past wins, records, combinations and so on. He called everybody MR. (so and so) and would give a great racer the respect he deserved.

Again, look at the one and only USCN. Spectators came from all over the country to watch our kind of cars run.
