A friends father bought a 1958 Dodge Custom Royal Sierra 9 passenger wagon brand new in late 1958 special ordered with the D500 motor but was delivered with the" NEW FOR 1959 D500 Special " which was now 383 cid. It also came with those neat Lancer style hubcaps. That car is still around here with the second owner. It is not for sale but current owner is now willing to let it go back to my friend whose father purchased it new from the Esso service station/ Dodge dealer. It was kind of an eye opener for the gas jockeys back in the day when asked to check the oil and found this big motor with two four barrel carbs under the hood of a station wagon. Not just any station wagon mind you it was after all a Custom Royal. Doug

Wasn't there a blown '57 ford somewhere along the way - just to prove the current CJs were not the first?

I liked the look of 2 4brls and the performance was not half bad.

I wonder if racers worried as much about the HP ratings back then?

There was a factory supercharged 312 V8 available in 1957 Fords, rated at 300HP, but it used a single 4 barrel. They also offered a 2x4 barrel 312, but it wasn`t supercharged, and I believe was rated at 270 HP. It seems that there were several different people running the blown 57 Fords back in the Jr. Stock days, including 2 dr posts, 4 dr HT`s, and even a wagon or 2. The ex Larry Walker from California 2 dr post blown 57 has been up here in BC Canada since about 1971, and is being restored to "Legal Cheater" status, after sitting for over 30 years.

Bret might like this one, in 1966 I found a '65 Ply Valiant V200 station wagon for sale in PA that was a 273/235 hp, 4 sp, sure grip car.

In AL in a junk yard was the rarest Mopar probably ever found.....no it wasn't a Muscle Car, it was a Ply. Savoy, radio/heater delete, 3sp standard, rubber mat, 225 ci. car. In other words it was built with NO options. Unfortunately, the whole car was rusted out from the doors down and had two pine trees growing out of the trunk.

Oh boy, now you've got me thinking about that one.
A 65 Dart wagon makes N/Stock with a 273/235/210, 4 speed. Doesn't even need a rollbar.

Hey,That 4-speed wagon had to come through with a factory Hurst shifter unit.And possibly, the special exhaust, with the rectangular-shaped/chrome-tipped exhaust tail..Never saw a 273/235 Commando in a wagon,,, but I know there were definitely a few built with the 235HP.
ODD-BALL and UGLY,,1967 AMC Marlin, the performance version with the 343/280HP engine. Blazed the quarter in 17.6 @ 82mph. There ads stated, 'the only race were intersted in, is the human race'..And with those
times, you will have all day to enjoy it..

I remember in 78 , seeing a 70 corvette ,454 ,radio, heater & A/C delete,also had rubber mat instead of carpet ,4 -speed. It ran low 11's in the 1/4 mile @ Kinston Drag Strip ( N.C ). He drove it to the track and put slicks on and un-capped side pipe headers . Kinda of a burnt orange color. My bad , It was a 69 L-88.

There was also a 2x4 barrel with the E-2 cam rated at 285 hp that was released before the Super Charged option was released it was dropped after the Super Charger

1992 Dodge Dakota 5.2 liter Magnum.
Knock the beauty rings off the thing and it would go 14.95@ 90 mph with the window sticker still in it.
