Re: Class win
Lets see, there are over 50 classes in Stock Eliminator, yet many NHRA National events limit the car count to about that number, which means if there were 2 cars per class trying to get into a race, 1/2 the classes would have no representation, or else pretty much every class would have a single entrant to solo for a class win. Also, if NHRA did reduce the classes by going to 1 lb weight breaks, or combine sticks & automatics, we could well lose the current diversity of cars that we now enjoy. Much like the old days, (and still to this day in some cases), certain combinations "own" some specific classes. With the current rules, there is more freedom to build a car model/engine combo you like, rather than having to build "THE" combination to be competetive in a given class. Not singling out any racer or car combo, but frankly, I don`t want to see nothing but 396-427 Camaros in the upper classes, 350 Camaros in the middle, and 283 65-66 Impalas & Belairs in the lower end. I hear all this talk about Stock not being a entry level class, but in reality, it kinda is, or it can be. Not every body has the resources to buy a $50,000 turnkey "killer" car, $5000 "valve jobs", or a $15,000 dollar "stock" 305, 318,or 390 engine. Some of us actually enjoy the challenge of building a car within the rules listed in the Rulebook, some seem to "follow" the black & white interpetation of said rules more than others.Maybe if every car got a thorough tear down inspection annually, with a firm, and most of all CONSISTANT enforcement of the printed rules, there might not be such a spread between the truely legal, and some of the "just work harder, spend more money" guys. Much like there was much moaning about the possible piston & rod inspections, and checking of the "stock" cylinder head port volumes, I thought it odd that there were so many supposedly legal racers who were afraid that they may have inadvertantly (of course) recieved "defective" components from their local wrecking yard, engine builder, or parts supplier. He was before my time, but from what I have seen or heard over the years, "Farmer" Dismuke would have held the reigns much tighter on interpetation of the Rulebook!

Re: Class win
I am sorry for giving my opion on super stock class racing. With over 30 years involvement in class racing what was i thinking. You guys have it all figured out, so now I can go back to trying to win National events and rest at night knowing that you guys will take care of the class issue. I was only trying to stick up for the class racer, the big Wally is what I am after. you guys have worn me out on the key board, but i hope to race you all next year on the track. This bench racing is not for me . See you in the staging lanes

Re: Class win
Mike, I understand about the problems with full pound wt breaks w/ high HP cars, which is why my suggestion was full pound for *some*. It's not .5-lb breaks top to bottom even now. I have one of "those" combos... 200lb heavy for its natural class, over 500lb light for the next class. The upper and lower ends of the spectrum can't be moved, understandably, but the wt breaks can be spread more as you move down the list. They just went wacky when they did the FWD breaks.
Sticks and autos: compare indexes, wt break if necessary. If class breaks are equal, no reason to not combine them. Wouldn't hurt my feelings if sticks ended up w/ a tiny advantage... incentive to see more built. RE: "everyone will only race 'the' killer combo" -- 1) Combos are still subject to factoring, 2) Most people build cars they LIKE and/or can afford, period. Otherwise, you'd already have 128 new Cobra Jets in the field. (And if you had 128 CJ's, refer to point #1.) PS - typing on a Blackberry sucks. This is how much I love you guys. ;) LOL |
Re: Class win
How about this,
In SS, SS/ Mod cars to comp, cars and trucks run same class, SS and GT run same class,GTs have wt penalty, GT fwds have extra penalty. All Natl. Events run class, Class Winner is automatically in, 96 car field of Class Winners and fastest non winners. In Stock, All Natl. Events run class, same as above. At every race, minimum of 12 cars per eliminator to be torn down (rain or not) numbers are drawn out of a hat. DQ is minimum 1year off and offending parts are voluntarily surrendered, marked and destroyed. That ought to piss some people off. (Terry should like this one) |

you spell a word wrong.I think you better leave Internet racing to those capable of handling it.Some of us can actually do both, sort of like chewing bubblegum and walking at the same time. And you can quote me on that. |
Re: Class win
I agree with herbie Null 100%
NHRA should make some more new rules... If you don't actually race anyone at a race where class is contested you don't get anything but maybe a decal... You MUST race someone and win to be eligible for a Trophy and any contingencies. You also must teardown and pass to collect your trophy and contingency Sound familiar? Yea because that is how it used to be and was meant to be. All the whinning that goes on here by just a few people is sickening. The bottom feeders do the most bitching and whinning. There is no way the old days and ways are going to return so NHRA should wise up and dump the "make believe class eliminations" at various events. Put the time and money into places that will do the sport some good and make a better show. Heads up runs are fine but not if the cars are as slow as dumptrucks......No one wants to see this crap out on the racetrack......Some bitch about T-Stop cars ...Some bitch about T/S and T/D and just about any other class that they don;t run....What a bunch of whinning old farts.......... Maybe some of you should retire to the old folks home and sit and tell your stories about the Glory days........ Bunch of F.O.G.s........ And don't tell me to STFU .....I've paid my dues since 1966 and trailered plenty of cars to the races.....including Stockers.... |

Re: Class win
It would bring back fans to watch CLASS Stk and SS again also because by combining all the classes down to many fewer there would ALWAYS be enough cars entered to make some rounds of class.
Currently too many classes divided into ??? racers and of the 80 cars allowed in the gate chances of BYES Way above chances of 5 or 6 in a class... I suggest 1 lb breaks also , stick and auto together with wt break for auto is suggestion. |
