What's not to like? How about that rod killing 5 pound piston....

hey hey hey, Bruce... that's not very nice.
It's only 2 pounds... and is there to test the durability of connecting rods.

Don Fezell's Jenkins/Strickler Old Reliable Z-11 brought $525K at Mecum's, his black Z-11 brought $340K.

The 409 based cars are great. The pistons are no heavier than some of the Chrysler Hemi pistons.

Some of you may recognize Denny Ford's 62 409 Biscayne.

Years ago, I built a rather stock 409, and the piston with the pin,no rings, weighed 1002 grams. That rotating assembly probably acted like a huge auxiliary flywheel in addition to the regular flywheel. It sure left like a cannon ball.

Hey ya'll, I realize this is an old thread.

But I just now ran across it, by accident.

Since I'm a Pontiac guy, I'll name a few '60's Stock Pontiacs I liked.

(1) There were some 389 Tri-Power '60 & '61 models that did good. Gary Moore was '68 div 4 Stock champ & set the F/S record at the '69 Winter Nats, in a '61 model.

(2) Somebody already mentioned the '62 421SD powered Pontiacs. I really liked those, too. Don Gay drove an A/S class winner. There were quite a few strong ones.

(3) There were the 421SD powered A/FX Tempests & B/FX Cat class winners, in '62 & '63. I think the FX classes were included in the Top Stock category.

(4) The Knafel Pontiac Tri-power '66 GTO won lots of races in '66. The Royal Pontiac '66 also ran strong.

(5) The "Limelighter" '67 GTO was a nat record holder.

(6) There have been too many strong running '68 Birds to list here. I'll just name 1. Truman Fields bought it new. It won Indy twice, along with lots of other wins. Probably the most famous '68 Bird drag car.

(7) Then there were the '69 Goats, especially RAIV powered Judge models. Some were nat record holders. Lots of Pontiac dealers sponsored 'em, in '69.

We'll hey, those here who are familiar with my posts know I could go on & on naming Pontiacs & posting pics. But I'll be nice on this one post. :D

Good morning to all,
I have to agree with Steve, but have to add Jere Stahl's 1966 Hemi 4 speed car. Hemi with a 4 speed and 7 inch slicks - Ya Hoo!
Super Stock Magazine said the 1969 Plymouth Road Runner with the 440 6 Pak (A-12) was a "Good Stocker" and proved it by building one!:)
Have a Great Day to all.

Respectfully,
