Re: Question about seats in a Stocker
I don't know much about stock class but I know a lot about seats. If I wanted to make a "stock appearing" seat I'm sure I could make a really light one. I'd use white packing foam. It is super light, good enough to protect packages from drops and doesn't seem to break down. Inside the seat you could weld up your own light weight steel frame. With the stock cover on who would know?

Re: Question about seats in a Stocker
I did not see them all, but about 10 stockers I stopped to look in at Bristol yesterday had some kind of OE seat in them.

Re: Question about seats in a Stocker
as far as the RULES go...
i saw danny gracia toss danny byrds chevy II at indy this year because the seat was from a 4 door chevy II (did not fold). he was not allowed to race. rule says stock interior & upholstery jack mccarthy call MJ Quinn 502-499-0140 he can help you with seats / weight |
Re: Question about seats in a Stocker
THe IHRA rule book says Stock appearing seats, thats where the grey area is. As low as nhra is on car counts, grading points are a joke now, I cant believe they threw someone out for seats. But knowing Danny he was fast and I'm sure the correct seats will slow him down .2

Re: Question about seats in a Stocker
The NHRA rule book as it reads right now says. Full factory type upholstery, including factory-tpe floor mats or carpet, door panels and headliner, and front and rear seats.
That is right out of the rule book. Again notice the words factory type. It does not say "stock upholstery and seats". Or mention they must even be correct year factory type seats. Just factory type. I can't say what happened at Indy as I don't know the people involved and didn't even know about it until Jack brought it up. However, going by the written rule in their own book. They have no grounds to throw anybody out as long as the seat is a correct factory type seat. Funny however that they'll throw you out for a non folding seat but some of them heads out there that we've seen in the tear down barns that are given the blessing to continue on. Gotta love stock eliminator. Rick Ryan |
