There are so many great black people here in Chicago, both in our racing community and outside of it. Don't let a thug spoil that sentiment. |

Re: Shooting at Great Lakes Dragaway
Racist or not racist isn't the question here, it took a long time to climb up the civilized society ladder, now it's back 1500 years and spreading with this type of culture mentality. Quite a difference between 1960 and now, and this type of activity could tear this country down faster than any enemy we face and it's getting worse. Maybe there are to many deep rooted differences in this country to make it work,? or maybe just a lack of IQ? We need to find an answer quick, I don't want to have to pick a side.

Ok guys. For many years this event was called BLACK SUNDAY. Only recently has it been called Larry's Fun Fest. Google it look at you tube and draw your own conclusions as to who they are appealing to. Now I wholeheartedly agree that not everyone in attendance was a behavior problem but apparently a few people were. As for the human beings that were shot so much for cum baya attitude. Their are bad people in every race or ethnic group look at you tube see what the crowd cars etc look like then draw your own conclusion

Re: Shooting at Great Lakes Dragaway
OK, guys, the race baiting in the name of political correctness has to stop. The fastest way to try to shut up an opposing position is with a phony charge of racism. That has created more polarization than any other societal ill that we face. I feel for the rest of the attendees of that event regardless of what race they are. They didn't need gang activity showing up and ruining the day for everybody. Chances exist that the event won't be scheduled again next year because some little malcontent had to ruin it for everybody. The damage was done and it doesn't matter what race the individuals there are. Cars seem to be a good thing to get involved with as a means to have fun,put aside your differences, and learn to get along. After all there are far greater things in life than racism, political correctness, gangs, drugs, and urban problems. That stuff divides. It doesn't benefit anybody like a good safe car event will. Back some 25 years or so ago, a rather visionary sort named Big Willie Robinson came up with the idea of using drag racing as a way to get people to reach out beyond themselves. After much stalling and issues from the bureaucracy, he was able to operate Brotherhood Raceway Park on Terminal Island near San Pedro at the harbor. (Great air,by the way).He stressed that we were there to race and have a good time, all racers and races were welcome, don't bring your problems, bring your cars and let's race. He did more good than any liberal social activism program ever did. He also was the enforcer if anybody needed it. He was big enough to do it. The land eventually got developed and it came to an end. The street legal drags programs came out and accomplished much the same thing.Let's not let a bad experience ruin racing, cars, enjoyment of life or anything else for any of us. Move on and quit the name calling and bickering among ourselves.
