"it has a 6L90E and hunts gears all over town."
Agree on the hunting driving around town. While towing it doesn't. |
Re: Gm 6.0 litre v v t v8 tow vehicle engine
Reading all this carefully..
What is considered a good rig for up to 7000# towing. Looking at the new Chevy/GM Colorado/Canyon. Would these be good enough for a trailer? Dan |

Dan, those might be fine for normal use, but if you're towing a car, on a 2 axle trailer, with really anything, you need a trailer brake controller. If that controller went out from a fuse or something else, that truck would never stop you, safely, in a panic type stop, on its brakes alone.

Re: Gm 6.0 litre v v t v8 tow vehicle engine
I'm using the absolute minimum in my opinion. 2004 1500 Silverado, 5.3L, 3:73 gear and airbags. Plenty of power and decent fuel mileage, but I don't tow over 65mph and would not at all if the trailer didnt have brakes as well. I worry more about stopping distance and constantly drive with my eyes focused far ahead. I sure miss my '97 dually.

I agree with you Rich, an open trailer with a 3000# car, the min would be a 1/2 ton P/U. My dad tows the open trailer with his 67 on it with a 04 2500HD and he said he'd never go smaller than that. Dan your car probably weighs as much as a canyon or similar size P/U.
