Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
When I first started going racing with my brother in 1981, IHRA Modified Production was in its heyday. As was mentioned earlier 40# flywheels, Dana 60's with 6.83 gears, 10,500+ and side step the clutch, and if the engine was bigger than 300c.i. it was unusual. One of the mega RPM cars I remember was mentioned earlier, Fred Whites vette. I remember looking at the old Moroso tack with the reset needle and it was always pushed past the numbers on the dial. The pits then was a corvette car show. Don Jackson

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
Growing up in Norwich, CT, the first really good race car I heard of was Kenny Adams' C/MP '57 Corvette. And my fiend Chester Houghtaling had a pretty fast '62 Vette in the early 80s.

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
These are my favorites as well. The throttle stops have certainly hurt racing, most kids just aren't into cars now either. It was a different time, my favorite was Tim Freemans Corvette.

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
Boy, here is a thread that got my attention. Modified Production, if there is any plan to bring this back please hurry. Not to be repeatitious, but no drag car makes the sound of those high winding small blocks with the dana rear section, cut 4 speed transmissions and the tunnel rams. Those bigh flywheels kept those engines winding. As some one already said, put that thing on the floor and slip your foot off the clutch and you are on a ride. Kinston Dragway had a race every year that was advertised as Gas and Modified race. I can almost hear old Charlie Brown and Tommy Walker on WKIX Radio in Raleigh advertising that race a week before it happened. I saw this thread after spending a whole week-end in Drag Race History. I have some photos of old Modified Production cars and I will get busy tonight getting some scanned to post. Thanks for the thread.

Re: OLD Modified Corvettes
More Modified Corvettes for you folks. The sweetest cars in all of drag racing in my opinion....they're just good looking cars! Actually I think the 63-67 are the best, but the 56-62 are the next best....mine is coming along nicely
