He said Bob called him and said he wanted to change the oil in it. My dad met him at the shop and Bob started the car to warm the oil. Next thing he knew, Bob took off down the highway open headers , slicks and all. Said he took it down rt. 23 to Waldo and back. The 70's were a fun time.

Jerry, nice story but was curious did your dad do alot of work on Bob Reed's other race cars, or was that a one time deal just working on his black '65 Plymouth.

As far as i know this was the only car my dad painted for Bob. But then again i just found out about this car a few years ago. I was just a kid in the 70's and my memories of watching Bob race was of him in the blue 68 Dart. I will have to ask my dad to be sure.

Here's a '65 Plymouth Belvedere that someone built to replicate an original...

I have a friend who, as a senior in high school (5 or 6 years ahead of me) bought a brand new 1964 Plymouth Stage 3 Ramcharger (aluminum front end car) and towed his senior class float in the homecoming parade. He raced the car (in stock or SS) for a few years (named "007 Thunderball") until he bought a new 68 Charger street hemi. I'm a GM guy but I really liked that car. The 64 Plymouth and Leal's 65 Hemi car are two of the few early Mopar's I really liked. My second choice would be a 68 Roadrunner.

1965 Mopars production numbers for the 426-S 'Street-Wedge'

Total units,,,,,,,,,,,,,,6569

I wonder how many 426-S engines found their way into a Plymouth Belvedere I or II 'Station Wagon'....

The numbers say,,,,,,,,,,not one 1965 Dodge Coronet 'Station Wagon' received the 426-S engine plant.

Paul, I wouldn't doubt it if some old man ordered one of those 426 street wedges in some of those models offered...and never say never with Chrysler production figures.

Moose,,,,,,,,,

Correct,,,,,,,,,had to be somebody out there, or a 'performance Plymouth dealership' back in 1965 who had a 'vision'.

The 426-S,,,,,,,,,,,,365 HP Street-Wedge in a 3650 lb. wagon,,,,,

A nice 10.00 Wt/Hp factor, maybe not the greatest for 1965,,,,,,but in 1968 with the new NHRA weight breaks,,,,,,,,,,,that fits nicely into E/SA.

This '65 Coronet convertible looks like it might have had a 426 street wedge engine in it...I also see a Dodge dealer logo on the doors.

Charlie, that's not Herb McCandles '65 A990 in the background, it is Robert Nance in his '65 A990 Mr Plymouth...but the cars do look similar though.
