I bet they had WAY too much weight in the rear. It reminds me of a friend that bought a 1973 Plymouth Suburban wagon and pulled the 440 and 727 and put them in the back of the car. He then wanted to tow it to the apartment where he lived. We towed it with a nylon strap (poor college students) and I "piloted" the wagon. Holy crap, that thing was unstable at anything over 30 MPH. Moving 800 pounds from the front to the rear sure changed it's weight distribution and roll couples.

Here's a modern day AWB Dodge running brackets at Mokan dragway. A friend of mine said he was running a wedge with the crazy Hilborns. I had a set of MW Hilborns years ago and they were short rams going across straight out from the ports. Apparently this guy put on some elbows and tall tubes for the "caliope" look ala, BBC.
