Republicans should like ti too. After all, the ACA was based on a proposal by the Heritage Foundation and was the basis of Bob Dole's healthcare plan when he ran for president in 1996.

What are you talking about? There are no fines for exceeding income thresholds. There are subsidies for low-income people.

Once again, Obamacare does not set the rates. Rates are set by the insurance companies under the laws of each state. If the rates are high in you state, look to the state government.

Also keep in mind that any increases that occurred in 2018 or after are the result of changes the Trump administration made to the ACA. SO if your costs went up for 2018 or later, blame Trump.

But on a more serious note, he's not wrong! People can't be turned away from "Community" hospitals if they have an emergency. (Private, FOR PROFIT institutions may not have the same requirements). That was the whole reason for the ACA - make affordable health care available to EVERYONE. People wouldn't have to use the Emergency Room as their primary care facility, hospitals wouldn't have to overcharge patients WITH insurance to make up the non-insured shortfalls (no more $4 band-aids or $20 aspirin) and insurance companies wouldn't be able to dictate what treatment a patient received based on a billing schedule - it would decided by a health care professional and her or his patient. Costs go down for EVERYONE!



Healthcare in this country is all about "profits". Insurance companies (and hospital corporations) have stock holders and CEO's to satisfy, and that takes money. Check the financials on your insurance company to see where YOUR premiums go.



While it's obvious that the phrase "We're in This Together" is misinterpreted by some people, hopefully most of us will come out of this - eventually.

Lew, my whole point about going to the emergency room was intended to refer to a family of 20 some, and no one has a documented job. How do they pay for medical treatment? They don't....... how is that fair???? I am totally disabled with cancer from agent orange, so this example is not me, but someone near to my family.
She is a nurse at urgent care and he is a private home builder. They gross between $200 and 220,000. Obamacare cost is around $1,600 per month. They pay in an estimated $36,000 in fed taxes, plus all the local taxes. They pay into Social Security. They both work their asses of to provide for and raise their family with braces and educational costs.
So, how is this fair? One family of 20 some, has no one working, free housing, free food, cash to buy drugs and cars, and pays or does absolutely nothing for health care, or attempts to improve social standing. While the other family works hard to pay their way and set good examples.

There are also a great many people who come from large families. Some very religious people think that's wonderful! But I'm not really sure why that seems like a problem to you, or why you think that ALL of them (discounting the younger ones who can't legally hold a job, correct?) might be unemployed? What exactly did you mean by that statement? I'm sure you wouldn't knowingly use a "racist" trope on Class Racer. And where did you get your information about the Family's employment status?

Wouldn't it be great if there was a program that made affordable health care available to everyone, regardless of wealth or social status? A program that wouldn't disadvantage those with pre-existing conditions or force others to have to file for bankruptcy in order to keep a family member alive? It's not that hard to understand why health care is so expensive here in the US, versus the other industrialized nations who pay a lot less for medical care. You just need to be realistic. Imagine if that family of 20 your friends told you about had a way to see a doctor when one of them fell ill, instead of crowding the ER? Imagine how a "Health Maintenance Program" would make them (and all of us) less of a strain on the System? The Emergency Room isn't supposed to be anyone's "primary care", but without insurance that's where people are forced to go.


This is not a Black or White thing. This is not a Red or Blue thing. This is a HUMAN thing, looking out for those of us who are less fortunate then others. You keep calling it an epithet, "Obamacare", because that's what fashionable now. Still doesn't solve our problem.

Lew, this should not be a "human thing". People are given the same opportunities for education, yet many do not accept that and are determined to bitch and complain that they are not treated fairly, in order to get something free. But free is not free.....someone has to pay for it.
I look at the riots and wonder how it got this way. I believe it goes back to a time when some of us were not in the states. The hippies, LSD, free love movement evolved via children and grandchildren to this crap.
I just saw pix of 4 BLM people take down an ex marine and kick him in the face. The Marine wore a Trump had.

For instance (follow along if you are able).The 2019 exchange premium is based on your 2018 tax return. Should your 2019 income exceed the 2018 income you WILL have to pay the premium difference PLUS fines. FACT...would you like my brother in-laws phone #?

Actually, for profit hospitals are no different. If a hospital has an ER, it is subject to EMTALA. I spent 15 years working for one of the largest for-profit healthcare corporations in the country, and another two years working for a smaller for-profit.

What a lot of people don't realize is that they have been paying for healthcare for uninsured people for decades. When hospitals are not paid for the care they provide to uninsured people, the hospitals make up that money in three ways. 1) The cost of that care is added to the cost of care for people with insurance. 2) Hospitals get reimbursed by states for that care with tax dollars, and 3) For-profit hospitals deduct the cost of unreimbursed care in their corporate tax returns.

At one of our hospitals in South Carolina, about 40% of bills were not paid prior to the ACA. After the ACA went into effect, that number dropped to 10-12%.

Brief History of the PPACA
The PPACA was developed by Republicans over 3 decades in response to Medicare and Medicaid being passed in Congress. That left the rest of the population dealing with Insurance companies that were now no-longer restricted to Congressional rules and became for Profit Insurance. This lead to insurance companies screwing over their Insured Patrons. Making policy changes without notification, denying preexisting conditions, selling policies to poor people in the south with cancer issues. Then denying coverage even if the coverage stated it was covered. Hospitals were impacted hard and increased their prices to prevent Bankruptcy and a big fight started. All over money.

This was more rampant as Insurance Companies were attached to Shareholder Wall Street performance. Growing public sentiment forced review of insurance companies and healthcare. Which included Pharma raising prices on Medication developed by US Healthcare agencies and given to Pharma to manufacture and distribute.

HillaryCare and other Programs were being discussed in Congress. When HillaryCare became the dominant topic Republicans started selling their program the PPACA and trashing Hillarycare. Which Republicans ended up adopted many of the policies and rules.

Below are the main Congressmen who wrote and coordinated with the Insurance, AEI and Heritage Foundation eventually being led by Senator Jim Demint. They are; John Chafee, Orin Hatch, Mike Crappo, Arlen Spector, Bob Corker, Lindsey Graham, Lamar Alexander, Charles Grassley, Bob Bennett, Christopher Bond, Don Nickles, George HW Bush and Jim Demint.

President Obama got elected and came with it a Democratic Controlled Congress to the surprise to the Republicans. Jim Demit gave the program to Congressman Charlie Rangel who Lead the Passage on Congress. Nobody knew what was in it and the Republicans were not so forth coming.

Republicans introduce 300+ Amendments and passed 160 of them. One amendment to keep the cost down and was killed. Called Single Payer Insurance. The Republicans pressed several times but could not kill Pre-Existing Conditions and voted down.

The Bill went to the Senate and managed to pass but not without a lot of conflict changing definitions and language, coordinated with insurance companies, AEI and Hertiage. Then Senator McConnell began his quest to hurt everything President Obama was trying to work on, like putting the country back on a good economic footing from the Bush Cheney Economic crash. The Bush Tax Cuts were supposed to Sun Set and McConnell made sure it got paired back.

Part of the agreement with Insurance companies was that the US would build the Federal Exchange and set up the foundation for States to borrow and migrate the software to fit their State needs. CGI won the award and built it in good conscience sizing it to fit what they thought would fit the public needs.

At the time the States were looking forward to adopting their own Exchanges. That is until the Republican began their quest to hurt President Obama. Abandoned all responsibility developing the PPACA and labeling it Obama Care.

Well CGI system crashed (www. Healthcare.gov) as it was not quite ready but good enough to get started. Because the several other States, all Republican Governed, never started their Exchanges. The demand was huge and the Public went and purchased on the Federal Exchange, which crashed the CGI servers.

CGI blamed for not meeting performance requirements lost the contract. Some of which was their fault but the greater responsibility for not being successful was the new Republican Agenda. Solution was quite simple more server space and throughput. This was too late and completion sent to another IT contractor.
