I met Steve Reasbeck at Beaver Springs two years ago. He's a real good guy running some old Hemi stuff, NASCAR rods, TRW slugs, etc.

Numbers say,,,,,,,,1965 Dodge (convertible with the 426-S)

Total Convertibles = 155

Automatics,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,57

Model 440,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,31 (21,,,4-Speeds) + (10,,,Automatics)

Hi Paul, I saw the link to this discussion on another site and joined up to see if you could help me out with any info. I was wondering if you or anyone else has any breakdown on 1965 Dodge Monacos. These cars are not really a big deal to most, but the reason I ask is I have what is believed to be the only '65 Monaco in existence with a 426 Street Wedge and a 4-speed tranny. Yes,this a factory built car with a copy of the build tag from Chrysler Historical showing it came this way. I am trying to find out if this was the only one built or if not,how many others came this way. Thanks in advance for any and all help you can offer.

Do you have any pics of this '65 Monaco...it would be interesting to see some exterior & interior shots.

Paul, I believe this '65 Coronet hardtop started life off as a street wedge...

Hemi Moose...thanks for posting the old pic of mine a page or two back.

I bought that car for $1000 my senior year of high school.....in March of 1969. I had fallen in love with those cars back in 1965 when I first saw them run at old PID, at a NASCAR Grand Stock event. In any event, mine had a 273 with an auto when I got it. In 1971 I got a hold of a Hemi from a stock car buddy, and it's been this way ever since. I think the shot you posted was taken around 76 or 77. Jim...thanks for the kind words.

That Monaco: C body factory four speed. Now, that is a rare piece.

A local collector has one of the very few (I don't know how many were produced) 1965 Chrysler 300L (last letter series) with a 426 wedge four speed. A buddy of mine had a 65 Sport Fury 426 wedge four speed.

Rare bird, indeed. That one is a keeper.

Steve, thanks for clearing that info up as I was always under the impression that you ran the '65 Coronet with a big block then switched to Hemi power sometime later in it's lifetime...

You know, as I search my memory I did run it a short time in 1970 or so with a 383 four speed. But, that was very, very, short, as I went to a Hemi almost immediately.

It's been a Hemi ever since.

Hemi Moose...... The car is going to be restored to stock specs with some minor tweaks to the motor. It is a complete matching numbers car and I think way too rare to make it into anything else. It deserves to be brought back to original. The factory color is Pale Gold Poly with black gut and no vinyl top.

Wow,, That is indeed a pretty rare piece,,, I agree it should be restored. It will be a great looking example. I'd put some Magnum 500s on it and stay away from white walls, but thats just me. Once you get started, please keep us up to date with your progress and photos,, take care.
