Green Horn was Alan Fetters 48 Austin that ran C/G. He and his brother built the engines. One car that comes to mind from Jerry Aults was Gary Kooken and Doug Filo's 58 Chevy called "The Humpin Hunkies" I remember a 66 Nova from Muncie,In. It was white and called DEUCE BAG. Had one painted on the doors. Myron Wells 59 chevy "Beat the Clock"

This isnt a cool name by anymeans but does anyone remember an old superstock 68 camaro named "miscarriage"?? My dad bought a camaro back in the late 80's that had this on the side in paint it was real faded out and was black and silver.. Like I said not flattered with the name that was on the side of it..

LOL... yup. He also fixed my glasses several times when I was a kid. I somehow managed to break the nosepieces off them in gym class or something stupid, and Mr. Wolf would solder them back on. He had the first Wally I had ever seen -- a Class win trophy on display in his store. Claims that car has 16 street-driven miles on it - bought it new from BZ Motors in Lewisburg, PA.

Re: Cool race car names!

Bryan, you forgot "Second Effort"...

One of Dad's earlier race cars was a 70 Camaro he ran in SS and Modified in the 70's named "The Hillbilly Flash".

Several cars from that era Bobby Baker named previously, ran at Riverside in Proctorville, OH and Kanawha Valley in Winfield, WV...back in the day. A few others I remember, "Almost Heaven" green 69 AMX, the Marshall Tucker Band cars made their treks through the area before and after they were bought from the band. Can't remember the name of the car; but a guy by the name of Joe Lemley (sp) ran a fastback Corvette in modified with a straight six. As a young kid growing up at the track, I loved those cars with the catchy names and slogans.

How about "Mama's Mink", Joe and Alice Tysinger.

Those were the days...

Ronnie Jr. I also remember the old days at Riverside Dragstrip in Proctorville Ohio. I don't think Joe ever had a name on the Vette. The green AMX belongs to Hemi Adkins from Ravenswood, WV. He has owned the car since it was new and still runs in SS/B & SS/C. Mike

Re: Cool race car names!

Mike,

I couldn't remember if that was Hemi's AMX or not. His car has always ran good. I see him occasionally at D-1 events and the S/SS races at Hagerstown.

Back at Riverside and Winfield, being a 10 yr old kid around all those cars was WAY COOL.

Hoy's "Rajun Injun" Pontiacs
Hundley Brothers Pontiacs
Johnny Duncan's Pontiacs, too
Charlie Betts' original 69 Z-28 with 46 miles, which Roger Keeling bought, raced and sold. I heard Charlie has bought it back to restore. Heard he still had the original motor and drivetrain.
I thought Joe's Corvette had "Swamp" as part of the name or "frog" etc.

Dad misses the racing activity and being around it. He is following a couple of leads right now but not for operating the track.

Good luck this season.

Ronnie, Jr.

Al, You missed a track that shut everything down for 1 Hr for lunch. The bar by the train tracks on the way in was busy.Your dad,Don, Richie & Tony Neri & the whole Stratford gang had lunch there.Made for interesting racing when the afternoon activities started.I'll never forget Tony's Nova barrel rolling on the dirt embankment. I grew up waiting for the weekends to race with friends & enemies, party afterwards with dates & loonies.
!st time to spectate with my family watched Bill Jenkins tune Doc Burgess's Black Arrow Dodge.
