A Connecticut guy who started selling small parts at the track, out of his station wagon. Arguably, the father of the Drag Racing aftermarket. Drove by his old storefront in Greenwich when I was a teenager, looking for clues, lol. I know Al D`Angelis ( Mystery Willys) built stuff for him out of his shop in Stratford. Frank, you must have some stories to share...

Re: Moroso 7.10×15 front tires
We used to go Greenwich to the old Moroso Speed Shop but first stop was at the McDonalds next door and we'd bring our food to the shop and hang out and read National Dragster with our friend Everett Mastrich who was the manager. Dick was rarely there because he was developing the new manufacturing facility in Stamford making Fiberglas body components and oil pans which was headed up by Mike Canton. A friend Steve Flett worked there with Mike.
When Dick bought the Corvette (see Mike's photo) it was white with Paul Blevins name on it, the '55 Nomad was parked there as well. Back at the Speed Shop, Charlie Castaldo used to drop in among other racers. One memory I have was seeing the first Cragar Super Tricks and thinking how light they were. Before Everett (M/SA Monte Carlo) became manager it was Ben Kaufman who was my friend Steve's brother in law and Ben was a Ford guy who had a '65 D/MP Ford Fairlane and also a matching street car with Moroso 7.60-15 all the was around! Those were the days! |

Knowing most of us are " Pak Rats" I bought my first pair of Moroso 7.60 x 15 in 1975, ran them on my 55 Chevy, my 62 Impala bracket car and on my 69 Nova Stocker as well as Wayne Hopkins Stocker. They are upstairs in the garage now "resting". I still have my 7.10 x 15 Moroso that I bought when I built the Nova, and were in service many years/passes. They are resting next to there Big Brothers up stairs as well. The both sets still hold air when I've needed measure or check certain things. It is nice to see that a Quality product is still made and lasts. The " Moroso " sticker is proudly displayed on my race car and tool box. Respectfully, Henry Kunz 1534 H/SA |
Re: Moroso 7.10×15 front tires
Since we are on the subject of Moroso front tires, does anyone have experience with their DS-2 tires? They are 4-ply as compared to their others which are 2-ply. Since my new car is a bit heavy and was previously known when belonging to other racers to be a bit wheelstand-prone, I am taking a look at them. All comments welcome.
