Re: Question for LT1 Firebird racers

My car was Karl Geist's at one time and I bought it from Lloyd MacKay. It was pretty slow even compared to other good running 350/255's I saw the new Firebirds and what they were running and quickly sold that car...... Years later I bought an LT-1 car as a roller and sold a couple years later to ....Lloyd Mackay after the combining of the FI with the regular classes and the HP hits the LT-1 got hit with. Great cars to drive and race....but a lot of them kind of disappeared as the HP went up..... |

Re: Question for LT1 Firebird racers
I was bored with S/C and bracket racing my dragster. That was around 2004-2005
I Really liked those LT-1's after they were out there a few years and were in their own separate classes. I Was at Maple Grove and sat down with Bud Rowe and struck up a conversation. I knew him a little from my early days in Stock Bud was running his LT-1 at that Maple Grove race and it was faster than most....We had a real good time talking about the old days and what he said about the FI cars made me want to buy one..... I found a real good roller and built my own engine. Bought a lot of parts and got some advice from Woodro.... My car was never very fast and I stubbornly tried to tune it myself with zero knowledge of what I was doing.... 10.50's 125 was the best I ran and did drive it for the current owner at 2 races .....It ran the same but was much better tuned and was about 100lbs heavier....maybe a little more... I ran Bud on a time shot at one race when I had the car and mostly what I saw was his car running away from me.....LOL Fun cars to drive but tough to work on at home in a small garage...... I went back to an easy to work on and race Dragster..... |
